Jazz's Hornacek officially joins Corbin's staff

I am LogGrad98 and I approve of this thread.

-5 to the original poster for failing to use "Horny" and "Staff" in some sort of clever innuendo-laden title. Only Ben10 has caught the spirit so far.

Out of curiosity, why does everyone think Hornacek has what it takes to coach? Is it based in fandom?

Have been told by players and coaches alike throw Horny's playing years that he was on of the most intelligent players that they had ever been around and that he would make a great coach. I remember Sloan saying something to that effect also. This is just from memory from many years ago so I don't have sorces. Just what I remember being said about him.

I think from what we have seen in his interaction with other players and the media, the fact that he has a good rapport with the players and is by all indications well-respected by the players, media, and organization, and the fact that he always had a high basketball knowledge and has shown solid insights into the game, all make it likely he can succeed as a coach.

I am sure fandom has something to do with the enthusiasm evident on this board (mine too). But imho he has what it takes to be a solid coach. Obviously he will need to be tested and grow into the role and maybe in the end he won't pan out or won't like it, but I like the idea of him getting involved.

Altough I like Hornacek. I have no idea if he will make a good coach. What I do know is that he's unexperienced and Corbin needs as much experience around him as possible being a rookie coach. I would love to bring back Gordie Chiesa on that Developmental coaching job that Corbin referenced to cause he used to work with the players before Corbin did but what I think the Jazz need is someone with head coaching experience and with a defensive mentality but not someone that would undermine Corbin to get the job himself. I would like Terry Porter as a first assistant if at all possible and if the Jazz deemed he wouldn't be gunning for Corbin's job.

That's the word on the street. Horny definitely had a great career for a guy with little or no athletic ability and one good knee. He seemed to have a great understanding of, and was able to read, the game and sometimes those players end up being good coaches.

Also wanted to add a long with what everybody's feelings of Horny that his dad is also a HC and while that in of its self doesn't mean he'll make a good coach it just shows he's been around it and grew up with it so every little bit helps.
