The Sweet Science: Boxing

Here's highlights/knockouts from Viktor Postol. Matthysse is always ready for a war. This fight could be really good, I like Matthysse chances at ending it early.. 10:15 ET on HBO.

Yo PGAB, where's that Broner fight going to be telecast on? Showtime? There are a few guys here at work with the same Broner sentiments!

9pm EST on Showtime. there's a co-main event first, that's going to have some fireworks.

"Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza (20-0, 12KO’s) makes the first defense of his IBF junior lightweight world championship when he defends his crown against dangerous, former world-title challenger and IBF #14-rated Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (34-6-2, 19KO’s)"

Broner's a talented 140lb fighter, but that's basically the extent of the good things I have to say about him.. He's not what I'm talking about when I say Boxing is back in 2015...

The Porter fight, and all the **** he talked prior to it - crowned him as the poster boy for a fighter that runs their mouth, and can't back it up..

It wasn't even entertaining to watch. He was holding and looked gassed. Porter didn't even look that great in the fight either.

The weight class is LOADED though. Here's a better prospect than AB imo. (18-0 15ko's) Amir Imam, from Albany NY.

Fight night!! Showtime is free this weekend so everyone can watch Allakhverdiev-Broner.

Broner needs this win in the worst way, He weighed in at 138½ which is probably a good sign that he's been training harder for this fight than previous ones. IMO that's fair to assume..

One of the issues with Broner is that he was out partying leading up to fights, That's why many serious boxing fans kinda find him obnoxious. (and why some root for him - he tried to represent some sort of glamorous boxing lifestyle).. He obviously idolizes Mayweather..

Weights: Broner 138.5, Allakhverdiev 139

Weights: Lucas Matthysse 139.4 , Viktor Postol 139.4

Should be interesting to see how Broner looks at 139.. he's talked alot of **** about fighting at 147 again, which is where he took his first professional loss (to Marcos Maidana)

Joe Louis holds the record for consecutive Heavyweight title defenses at 25, Larry Holmes had 20, Klitschko is up to 18. The Fury-Klitschko fight has been rescheduled for Nov. 28th - Which is going to be a glorious day for boxing.

Fury is 6'9" 260 lbs. Wlad is 6'6" 246, but should be able to control the fight with his Jab.

Sources close to the situation have advised BoxingScene.com that a tripleheader is being finalized for November 28th at the newly constructed Videotron Center in Quebec City, Quebec. The three fights will be broadcast by Showtime.

Newly crowned IBF super middleweight champion James Degale (21-1) will face former champion and fan favorite Lucian Bute (32-2) in the main event. Degale picked up the vacant title when he won an unanimous decision over Andre Dirrell in May. Bute returned from a year and a half absence in August when he stopped Andrea Di Luisa of Italy.

WBC #1 ranked contender Isaac Chilemba will battle Eleider Alvarez in a fight to produce a mandatory challenger for WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

A fight between Artur Beterbiev who is ranked #2 by the IBF and #8 ranked Sullivan Barrera was being negotiated to determine the organization's mandatory challenger for Sergey Kovalev.

Our sources indicate that Barrera's promoter Main Events will likely pull out of the October 5th purse bid later today. Barrera has had issues obtaining a visa to travel to Canada and will probably not have his immigration issues cleared up before the November 28th date of the fight which means Beterbiev will face an opponent to be determined in the near future.

Bute is a damn entertaining fighter to watch. He got obliterated by Carl Froch though.

@BoxingLegion
Looks like Bernardo Hopkins will have his goodbye fight against Arthur Abraham on January 30!

I think I saw the next great heavyweight fight last night, Joseph Parker (16-0 14ko's) he's sharp and light on his feet. Next fight is Dec 5th, he's on track for a title shot in 2016.

Wlad's sparring partner, here's what he had to say about him.

"He's extremely talented," Klitschko told ESPN.com of sparring partner Parker. "He's strong but he is very different from [Englishman] Anthony Joshua even though they are both very determined and very tough. I see myself in Joseph in a certain way. I can't say anything negative.

That's some beautiful stuff right there.

I am so hyped for tomorrow night and I, thankfully, found a place to watch the pugilistic showdown!

Golovkin and Chocolatito put on a good show.

I forgot to mention 2 time gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko in this thread..He's got a claim to be greatest amateur boxer EVER. Not a typo, his amateur record was 396-1.. He's 27. and won a title belt in his 2nd career right.

Some say he can make a case for top-5 p4p and he doesn't even have 10 pro fights yet.

Indeed they did. Both came correct in their respective weight classes. They were a joy to watch.

Did you get to see that Fonfara vs Cleverly bout? Some are saying it was the fight of the year. I'm still looking to locate a stream of it.

Also, what say you in regards to the complaints that GGG is asking too much in regards to a future match between him and the winner of the C/C match?

I saw the Fonfara-Cleveley WAR, I'd HIGHLY recommend finding a replay.. it was the best fight I've seen all year, they broke the compubox record for punches thrown in a light-heavyweight fight, during the 10th round... The undercard (Kono-Kameda) was highly entertaining too, first time 2 Japanese fighters have fought for a belt in the US..

Fonfara-Cleverly even had a few windmill punches... I don't want to spoil it any further, but yeah, you should really check that fight out..

Golovkin can ask for whatever he wants IMO. His camp isn't trying to find the the best resume builders, so it is what it is.. they want to keep building the hype/maximize his earning potential - HBO and Boxing Politics seem to be in charge.. It seems HBO will keep Chocolatito as a co-main event on his cards while billing him as the #1 p4p fighter in the world - It makes the cards very exciting.

I kinda want to see GGG vs Quillin tbh. Cotto would really be quite the spectacle though..

According to a report at Sports Illustrated, former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver failed a drug test for his fight with Steve Cunningham in August, testing positive for a banned substance prior to the bout on both the "A" and "B" samples.

If so, this would be the second failed drug test for Tarver, 46, in the last three years. He also failed a test when he drew with Lateef Kayode in 2012 in a cruiserweight bout. Now fighting as a heavyweight, he also drew with Cunningham on August 14 in Newark, a show televised under the Premier Boxing Champions banner on Spike.

Tarver (31-6-1, 22 KO) was suspended for one year by the California commission in 2012, and he could face stiffer consequences this time if New Jersey takes action, too. Tarver also wound up losing his job as a Showtime commentator after failing the test in 2012. He currently works as a commentator for Spike.

Synthetic Testosterone..

Multiple sources have advised BoxingScene.com that a heavyweight bout between Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20KOs) - who scored a 3rd round stoppage of Matias Vidondo on this past weekend's card at the Madison Square Garden - and Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10KOs) has been consummated for December 19th on a 'Boxing After Dark' card on HBO from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York.

Ortiz-Jennings was previously being pushed for last Saturday's HBO Pay-Per-View undercard for Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement and the Ortiz instead went with Vidondo.

In beating Vidondo, Ortiz picked up the WBA's interim-heavyweight title.

Jennings was last seen going the distance with a respectable effort against heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on April 25th.

The word is that former featherweight champion Nicholas Walters will co-headline this card, likely against Jason Sosa.

WBA “regular” super welterweight champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (21-2-2, 12 KOs) will defend his title against former world champion Jan Zaveck (35-3, 19 KOs) on ESPN November 25 from Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Miami. “I’m very excited to be defending my title in my hometown of Miami,” said Lara. “Getting in the ring with a former world champion and an experienced fighter like Jan Zaveck is something I’m very much looking forward to. On November 25 I will put on a show for all my fans and especially all my Cuban fans watching on ESPN.”

https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/kovalevpascal-ii-likely-for-january-30/48538

After his November homecoming was cancelled, it’s looking increasingly likely that Russian WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion, Sergey Kovalev, will rematch Canada’s Jean Pascal on Jan. 30 instead.

The plan is for the Pascal rematch to be the first of a 3-fight schedule that will culminate in a clash with Oakland’s unbeaten P4P star Andre Ward, later next year – himself set to embark on a similar deal on HBO, ostensibly beginning on next month’s Cotto/Canelo undercard.

Speaking to ESPN.com, Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva insisted that in an ideal world Pascal would have fought WBC champion, Adonis Stevenson, with the winner then facing Kovalev, although according to the Main Events CEO, it is once again Stevenson’s camp who have refused to play ball.

“We tried very hard, through [Pascal’s promoters] Jean Bedard and Pierre Duc of InterBox during recent weeks, to come to an agreement for [ Adonis] Stevenson to fight Pascal in December or January, and for the winner to fight Sergey in the spring of 2016,” she said.

“Sadly, [Saturday’s] deadline has passed without acceptance from the Stevenson [team], so Sergey and Pascal must move on, and we are now talking about Sergey versus Pascal II in January.”

Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel claimed that they were not in a position to accept or decline the offer from Main Events within the given timeframe, and that they will seek to keep Adonis busy while he does indeed looks to face the winner of Kov/Pascal II, sometime next year.

Kovalev previously stopped Pascal inside 8 rounds back in March. A site for the January rematch is still to be determined.

Fight Night!!!! One of the most talented boxers in the world, Terence Crawford (26-0 18ko's),defends his light welterweight championship belt vs Dierry Jean (29-1 20ko's)

If Crawford wins this, and he should, while looking really good. They said Pacquiao might be up next, and he'd mop Manny across the ring...
