What's new

3-wing lineups are a bandaid + we shouldn't wait for Dante

The reason you wait is simple. Every year some team at some point start to suck and decides to blow it up. You wait for this and then strike.
NO reason to give up extra assets especially when the Jazz may actually make the triple wing work.

Hmm... what is the trajectory of this team?

Not sure would I trade Exum before we know what he is. Last year he was passive and differed to the older players, which reminded me of Hayward's rookie season. If our trajectory is to compete for an 8 seed this year, then what exactly is the rush?

PGs are out there to be had. But it may take a minute until other teams are ready to deal. They want to see what they have, too. So the assets the Jazz do have may not mean anything just yet.

What kind of player do you expect to get back for Exum? Or for Burks or Hood, for that matter?

Agree here. What evidence do we have that the triple wing can actually be considered a "band-aid"?

I like dante a lot. I don't think the jazz should trade him. My reasoning is because he is a special player on the defensive end. Probably has potential to be the best defender at his position in the entire league, and can switch 1-3 fairly well.

Trade anyone outside of Hayward favors go gobert and Exum. Maybe hood and burks, but find someone that fits well.

Schroeder would be awesome and could probably play alongside Exum in the future.

Good thread NAOS.

Fair point.

I think people should actually remind themselves how long the Jazz have been a good team for ... what .. half a season ? With still nearly the youngest team in the league and all of a sudden it's time to panic and make a knee jerk reaction with the intent to contend immediately ??
The Exum injury is a bummer from the development point of view but i think it's too easy to get a little hysterical on what the team may or may not achieve this year. This may well be a mini version of last season, finding out exactly what you have on your hands and then starting the tinkering and building into serious playoff action from next year forth.
I'd much rather be patient and build a team that can then contend for years to come rather than wasting the opportunity by pressing the panic button about this particular season

Oooh. Great thread!!

I love mystery players.

I know of a few players I think would fit this idea perfectly.

Or is Schroder the only option at this point?

Everything will sort itself out.

If we play the way we did to start both the Lakers games we'll be fine. That offense was smooth, and beautiful to watch.
If Burke regresses he's gone, and we'll bring in a vet.

Let's wait and see how this plays out.

I'm feeling pretty good because like you say the offence was really smooth those first couple games. Quin actually seemed to back off and act like the Jazz were a vet team more concerned about resting players than ironing out bugs. It's been weird and I hope no one is actually hurt but it seems Quin is pretty comfy with his team as it is.

Few things on the PG situation.

-I still think the FO won't be as sad as you'd think if the team stumbles out of the gate(been saying that all off-season), this season is obviously the last chance to get a tank in.. The FO has 2 handfuls of ready-made excuses on deck(scapegoat, youth movement, "internal development", key injuries etc). The first 20 games are really a key for any good tank. I don't think the team can really compete with the upper echelon teams in a 7 game series, even in a best case scenario. so I can't blame them if they maneuver to pull the plug, it might be prudent. There's such quality young talent on the roster already it's easy to see that even with an underwhelming season, a few minor tweaks could end up with explosive results.

-It's unwise to jump to any negative conclusion on Burks at point, too small of a sample size, the potential is certainly there. Y'all want to call it '3-wings' so be it, he's playing point, because clearly he's not operating the same way as if he's in at SG... Calling him a PG increases his trade value, been trying to tell yall this for years. but keep calling him a wing I guess... he's more then capable of playing point, you'll see. Really think there aren't PG's in the league like Burks?? What about Jordan Clarkson, what about Tony Wroten.. ?? Burks is better then those 2.

-I posted a few years ago that Burks could have a Linsanity type impact at PG for the Jazz this season, and stand by that. With the Dante injury, and the payscale of the PG's rostered - he should have plenty of opportunity. I was assuming he'd be gaining experience running point last season though.

-The FO isn't going to go from turning down 10+ offers for the 13th pick, to take a 3rd PF on the depth chart, While passing on Cameron Payne. To then turn around and go pay a huge premium for Schroder - It's simply just not going to happen, the Risk/Reward doesn't make sense.

-Whats the saying? One in the hand is worth 2 in the bush?? The Jazz have gotta be looking at Trey and his restricted contract like that... If he can start out hot, it'd almost be difficult to calculate what that'd mean. I agree it's unlikely to play out that way, but I'd certainly argue its worth taking a wait and see approach. If they stumble out of the gate, every indication is a move will be made(will it be a power move or a stop-gap though???)..

-If Cameron Payne was the pick at #13, right now, he'd be viewed as the savior here, no doubt about it. Could never tell me otherwise... I got hassled plenty here about the idea of taking Payne 13th - I said with Payne the Jazz could catch lightning in a bottle.. Always said he could play with Dante too.

-I had Schroder as a top-5 pick in 2013 and the top PG in the draft, But I don't think trading for him is the greatest idea, its too late.(Though I did say pre-draft I'd have traded the #13 pick for him straight up).. The Hawks could almost ask for a D-Will type package.. I'd like to see the trade offers y'all are talking about too, I don't think its an easy trade to concoct.

This. Why is everybody panicking? The team has played 4 preseason games. Most of which was without a starter. The two games with staters the team looked pretty good. I'd say revisit this topic two weeks after the season opener.

This season is going to be fun. Bunch of wins and panic and impending doom when they lose.
