What's new

Alec Burks fractured ankle out mininum 6 weeks. Time to jump off a cliff

Why shouldn't we tank? I mean... It's been working out so well for teams like Sacramento and Philly. Where is Philly in the standings again?
Great point. Just ignore the warriors (barnes) cavs( lebron) spurs (Duncan) thunder (Westbrook, Durant) rockets (Hakeem) and others

At this point I'm wondering if DL will feel like his hand is forced to pull the trigger on a trade with the injuries stacking up. We are very much in the playoff picture but our depth is being tested like no other right now. Perhaps it's time to add some flour to the cake mix.

I don't think Alec being out really moves the needle that far either direction (he actually scores more and shoots more in losses than he does wins). Get Rudy back is the most important thing. More shots for Hayward will be better.

I do... We have two players who can create from the wing position and one from the pg position. Add in that hood is already nicked up and isn't an iron man and it isn't great. The drop off from burks to Ingles/Millsap/Johnson is steep. I think trey Burke soaks up a good chunk of the missing minutes, but what happens when Hood misses time?

There were guys to be had in free agency that could swing from wing to small ball 4. There were other big upgrades we could have sought... I understood not bringing in a PG because Exum's injury wasn't ideal timing. I just think we have punted too much. Some of the guys that signed contracts this offseason that we could have had would also be good trade assets. We kind of effed up the offseason.

Why is Barnes in this conversation? lol

There is still time for him to be in that category lol.

You can pick apart any strategy based on championships won or teams that failed because only one team can win the championship each year.

This sucks so bad. The question now is: Do we tank or keep fighting for a playoff spot? I think we are still too good to get a top ten pick, but I just can't see us holding on to the 8th seed unless Hood steps up big time.
Actually. we're not. The EC is stronger than the WC at the lower fringe playoff area. Just missing the playoffs in the WC this season would likely put the Jazz right around the 10th pick. If Utah got Poetl to replace Withey/Pleiss that would be a very good scenario.

I don't care how many shots gets Hayward. The important is that he carries the team's offense on his shoulders in the 4th quarter. He often failed to do it with Burks on the court or not.

Sometimes it seems like Hood has more confidence in his offense down the stretch rather than Hayward.

It has more to do with how the defense plays Hayward in the 4th. Someone else has to make a play since Hayward is being hounded an double teamed.

I remember a near past time when many Jazz fans loved him. **** hit the fan when it was the time for the conflict of interests.
I wasn't a fan the last couple years and many others that had grown frustrated with his lack of effort and inconsistent play.
Say what you want about Kanter, but at least he tried to protect our guys even if it was inadvertent.

Did anybody stand up for Burks last night? Think Malone would have let that go? Just curious.

Please tell me what Burks needed protection from?!?! Are u that dumb? Did u even see the play?? Or do u just like talking With your ***!!!? The only reason Burks got hurt is because he was out of control and drove the lane with reckless abandon there was nothing malicious about what Pierce did.

I see no silver lining in the injuries to Exum or Gobert. Those guys are more talented and needed to develop more than Burke and Withey. Burks being injured could be good for Hood but it in no way helps Hayward develop.

Of course they need to develop, but at least them being out speeds up our development in other players. I see your point about Hayward, he is pretty much fully developed.

Burks was shooting a blistering 39% in the month of December from the field. As long as we get Gobert back, we are fine.

Your reckless abandon comment makes it sound like you think Burks deserved to get hurt. When a guy is in the air and gets hit in the head he goes out of control. The only way this doesn't happen is if he doesn't jump. Are you saying that you don't want our players to jump? There might not have been malicious intent in what Pierce did, but the result that it knocks the player in the air out of control was entirely predictable. The way Pierce walked around smiling afterward was not cool at all and the way you are suggesting that Burks is at fault for this is completely lame. I love the way he drives fearlessly to the lane. His value as a player will decrease if he stops doing it. Is that what you want?
