The AB Replacement Options

Yeah someone like KJ is unrealistic, probably Stauskas too. If the Jazz goal is to make the playoffs they need someone ready for 25 minutes right now. People may throw up in their mouth about a guy like Kevin Martin, but bottom line is he helps us reach the goal of making the playoffs this year.

If marginal rotation guys are unrealistic, then there is no point in discussing anyone.

Not going after anybody is precisely the ****ing problem with this organization.

Agree... I like DL and jazz management but at some point we need to not worry about shaking the boat and adding some damn talent. Wouldn't it be smarter to take nba talent that isn't being used and develop it... Yet we prefer to scour old d league guys. I don't think it was a bad strategy for us to fill out our roster in years past but I'd rather us aim a little higher now. We can have player movement and still not skip steps ya know.

Why? Because the Rockets think a player they don't play is worth >$7 million dollars of actual money, or because the Jazz have too much talent again? Is KJ worse than Lillsap?

Because he is an unknown. Will be better than Sap in 3 years? Probably. If the goal is to make the playoffs this season, the Jazz will be looking for an NBA ready player rather than taking on a project.

Hint: they'll probably into their 30s.

I agree. But the Burks injury (and Exum, Gobert and Favors being out) gives the Jazz the opportunity to fall out of the 8th seed. Right now, if that were to happen, they would get the 10th pick. If they barely make the playoffs, they'll get the 15th pick. Last year, the draft was 11 players deep and the Jazz got screwed by having the 12th pick.

Yes, if there is a situation where a good, young player is available at the right price, DL should definitely pull the trigger. I liked the thinking behind McDaniels - i.e. he comes cheaper than his talent level to get Houston out of the luxury tax.

IMO, DL needs to find 3 players via trade, draft or free agency: a decent backup for Gobert, a stretch PF (or combo forward) and a good PG to either start over or push Exum, My dream scenario would be to draft Poeltl, sign Conley and then go after a guy like Ryan Anderson. Not saying all those are realistic, but I think players who fit those profiles would fill out the team for next season. The draft is full of good bigs throughout the top-10. Or a run on bigs could push a wing down.

Jazz aren't going anywhere this season. I want a top-10 pick!

KJ is less of an unknown than Lilsap is, and better today. Also, who do you think will be available for next-to-nothing (what the Jazz will almost certainly be offering) that can help by your criteria?

lol. This is seriously hilariously. Millsap is NOT an NBA ready player (unless you have an awesome vet in mind who can be had for nothing. /rollseyes). He is an end of the bench guy who gets a couple of minutes a game to hurt the team. Unless the Jazz is going for some twisted fouls/minute record, KJ is at no risk of being worse RIGHT NOW, not in three years.

Not to mention that the Jazz get to use one of their ONE MILLION sparkling 2nd rounders on anything.

For the record, I'm all about making the playoffs this year, 8th seed or not. I'm not confident that the Jazz will be bad enough to get a sweet slot in the draft. At this point, there's more upside in building a culture upward with the trajectory. But the Jazz are in some trouble if they don't start cobbling together a roster of healthy NBA players.

We need to show progress to hopefully retain our FA Hayward and favors... Making the playoffs is progress. If management continues to "develop" these guys who are low upside and not serviceable I wouldn't want to stick around and wait it out... I bust my *** and you don't do what you conceivably could to help? I would be much more tempted to leave personally. 10 to 15 isn't significant enough to lose progress. This draft seems to have a couple can't miss prospects a few high upside guys and then it flattens out.
