Lyles

I would take any player in that range over Lyles.

Lyles was the last person I wanted. I was literally saying, anyone but him.

Yep. I wanted Portis, Oubre or Booker over Lyles. Hated Utah, needing shooters, taking a guy who shot so poorly in college - especially since their reason for liking him so much was that he performed so well agility-wise on some weird drill DL invented. At least it looks like he won't be a bust. But DL HAS to do better than finding ONE steal (Gobert). Exum was a no-brainer since he was ranked #4 in almost all mocks. Hood MIGHT be a find. But SA routinely finds good players late and GS drafted Green at #35. Who has Dennis found in the 2nd round? Neto, Hanlan, Stokes (traded for a future 2nd), Diez (traded for cash, IINM).

Especially ironic cuz DL LOVES those 2ND rounds......

Yep, says they are valuable for trades. Apparently his idea of a good trade is a future, lower 2nd rd pick or a few hundred dollars to spend on ?. What I find funny is the Jazz have scheduled more workouts over the last two seasons than any other team. All to find Hanlan as their hidden gem?

I'm saying that he will be adequate at passing, rebounding, and defense because he has good bbiq and decent size, speed and athleticism.

But that won't be enough to make him a good player.

A guy like gobert is extremely good at defense. So he doesn't need to be able to shoot.
A guy like rodman is amazing at rebounding. Doesn't need to be able to shoot.
Some players are so good at passing, or getting to the line, or are so athletic that their shot is unnecessary to make them valuable.

Lyles is not exceptional at anything.... Therefore his jumpshot is extremely important to how valuable of a player he is

Not true, I remember Lindsey saying after the draft that Lyles showed exceptional balance.

He will be the primary back up PF next year. Booker is gone.

I really hated the Lyles draft pick, but he has played better than I had expected. He has shown good signs of improvement and will be a solid bench guy. I think the thing I like most is that he appears to have high BBIQ. Whenever I watch him play he seems to know what he's doing

Oh come on you negative nancy-- who should have the Jazz drafted instead of Rodney Hood?

Lyles will be fine. High IQ player, does many things well. Question becomes can he defend with competence at the NBA level. Is his effort there?

In terms of skill set, he's the perfect complement to Derrick and Rudy

How does Lyles' rookie year so far compare to Hayward's rookie year?

I'd say it's pretty favourable so far..... nothing flashy but he isn't making a fool of himself out there neither.

Lyles has been much better. He's shooting the three with confidence and competing on the defensive end. Bosh is a really tough cover.

We can compare Lyles to Hayward when he drops a 34 point game in his rookie year.

I think Lyles took the schooling from Bosh in the game in Miami a little personally. Much improved from that performance.
