What's new

#63-Atlanta At Utah--Tuesday 7:00pm

Lakers have beaten the Warriors. That doesn't mean they contend for the title. What's important is who ranks within the playoff slot when the regular season is over and I take a late winning tempo over a tired team that just are not energized up enough for the playoffs.

2 games behind Houston. Boo hoo.. Houston will not make the playoffs.

Jazz can only make such trade if they have target plan of how to get a good veteran bench, like Portland makes. Jazz MUST make playoffs next year or whole team will explode again.

Is that possible? If you take Gordon, Booker, and Johnson off this team, add a rookie Valentine, a returning Exum, a re-returning Burks, and a couple of veteran journeyman...do they make the playoffs?

This

We had Millsap, Jefferson, and Kanter. All quality pieces a few years ago. Assets that could've been traded for something good. Essentially, we gave all three away.

For what???

We also let Demarre Carroll walk for nothing. That one sucked.

Don't forget about Boozer he was valuable and the Jazz didn't trade him.
https://archive.sltrib.com/story.php?ref=/Sports/ci_12750212 Old article about JAzz needing to move him.

Ummm, no, he WASN'T valuable. If you recall, the Jazz let Boozer shop around for deals - in OPEN VIOLATION of NBA rules. He went to Chicago and Miami before his last season. Nothing was offered. There wasn't a market for him or the Jazz would have pulled the trigger. They wanted to clear cap space and not take back bad contracts for vets on the downside. The same was true with Jefferson. I did a very in-depth analysis of Big Al trades that could have occurred (given each team's cap space and salaries they would have needed to give back). Again, not a market unless Utah wanted to take back bad contracts.

Jazz were very adamant about only taking back expiring contracts so they could free cap space to either retool (by re-signing Millsap, DMC and going after a vet PG) or rebuild (which ultimately happened by DL taking on the GS salaries).
