Will Hayward be around in two years?

He is the only player on our team that has shown a consistent ability to take a game over and close a game out. Is he irreplaceable?

Hayward will be gone after next year ... book it...

If he is as competitive as he makes himself out to be, why would he stay to be a fringe playoff team ?

This next deal for him is his prime/peak, so he has to play to win.....

We are a fringe playoff team already. That is with 2 rookies and a sophomore getting major minutes and being one of the most injured teams in the league. What will matter is what level team are we in 2 years. Still fringe? Legit contender? Somewhere in between?

Learn to look ahead, nothing stays stagnate.

He has a tough call as a UFA.... Next year probably determines his move.

GS, Spurs, OKC untouchable I assume so at best a 4 seed.....

Guess we will see.

He already has shown he will demand and probably get MAX... Will we pay that ?

He was the only player with his stat line not named an All-Star....

He's definitely not irreplaceable... I really don't see how someone could justify saying he is.

I'd still trade him for the rights to 18 year old Brandon Ingram without thinking twice about it, I'd trade him for the Greek Freak straight up too.

The top SF's in the 2 drafts after that specifically Josh Jackson, Jayson Tatum and Michael Porter Jr all appear to be at-least as talented as Hayward.

As for will he or won't he be around?

I wouldn't be shocked if he walked, he'll be 27 so he could definitely be looking at these negotiations like he's gonna want to squeeze every last drop out of possibly the biggest contract of his career...

He's good enough where some team could pull out all the stops to add him, he;s gonna be an ultra-high priority FA and I'd imagine teams are going to try and sweeten the deal with all sorts of extras, they'll tell him how marketable he is and show him all sorts of plans for the future. It;s a slippery slope for Utah..

What If Hood gets even better next year, and Alec plays 80 games dropping 15ppg, drawing plenty of fouls and shooting over35% from 3??

What if Exum shows he's good for some minutes on the wing?? (and dare I say they have a PG good enough to displace half of his minutes to the wing).

What if they draft a SG or SF this year and he looks as promising as Trey Lyles does this season?

That's the sorta stuff that would change opinions around here... right??

There's going to be an issue of Dollars that must be obviated or it could turn into a 04-05 Pheonix Suns, Joe Johnson type of situation..

Hayward is by all means an all-star. He woulda made the team had we had an entirely healthy squad from beginning to end this year.

He's closing games well, and he's shut down players on crucial possessions from Harden to Lebron and Melo.

We can 100% offer him the biggest contract-- but what others are saying w.r.t. sponsorships and markets is true. The Knicks will plaster the dude's face all over New York.

We have every reason to hang onto him.

aside: I think the play of Hood, Lyles, and Favors only sweetens the cake for him. Hayward knows that this is his team, and he knows that he'll be on the spotlight with wherever this team goes. It's a unique situation to be in. He'd be an idiot to leave now.

Exum/Mack/Neto
Hood/Burks
Hayward/Ingles
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Withey

If Exum hits 80% of his potential? Game ****ing over, y'all. That roster is bullet-proof.

That looks really good on paper especially considering every single player except maybe Hayward and Ingles should be better next year.

I really have no feelings on this subject. If he stays good, if he leaves it's not the end of the world. To be honest, I'm just not sure that he likes it here all that much and I'm not entirely sold on his character.

Hood has played 2 months of insane basketball this season with 3-4 other months of OK basketball. We don't know if he is just a streaky player or someone who can be a consistent 1st or 2nd leading scorer.

Burks can't even stay healthy enough for us to evaluate what he can or can't do in the bigger picture.

Honestly, I'd give Hayward the 5 year max. You just can't afford to lose him. Giving the 5 year max to Gobert would be stupid because he is a RFA. We can keep him no matter what if we want to. The 5 year contract should be used on Favors or Hayward to offer the extra incentive to stay. I know some people will balk at that, but you just can't afford to lose Hayward. I know people think he is "replaceable" but you are setting back your timeline of competing in a major way if you do so.

lmao what?

How can you question his character?

Or is character code for "loyalty above all else to first employer"?

Character is code for passion for the game. I want to see a bit of blood running through his veins, not horchata.

I've always considered looking that far forward in NBA years as an exercise in futility. The basketball landscape changes so much that it's hard to know what things will look like.

I think the idea of him wanting to play for his college coach is way overblown. There's no reason to like Stevens any more than Quin. I think if Hayward DOES decide to leave, he'll do it more for family reasons and move to the Midwest. I could see Gordon signing a 4 yr deal with an opt out clause after the 3rd season in Indiana. The extra money Utah could offer him is immaterial. If he has an opt out in 3 yrs, then he's eligible for a 35% contract. That will make up for the difference between 4.5% and 7.5% raises.

As for Rudy, I agree. There is no reason to offer him a 5yr max. He simply isn't worth it and the Jazz can match any offer. Once unthinkable, the Jazz could trade him if they can find a decent 2-way player in the next couple of drafts. Gobert is great defender, but he is so inept offensively that Utah may not be able to ever contend if Rudy can't become at least a below average offensive player. Right now he is just laughable on offense.

If Exum's good next year the team is going to pass the eye test with flying colors, they'd turn plenty of heads, enough where national media types will be calling them 'trendy'.. They'll win 50 games too.

The constant conversation about Haywards pending free agency will hopefully be the most obnoxious repetitive parts of the broadcasts, I'd rather listen to that instead of them talk about injuries.

They can continue to add young talent to this roster too, this isn't a rebuild anymore there's too much momentum.

Ahh, that Skip Bayless take. Got it.

I never heard of that until you mentioned it, you must be referring to his comment "If Cavs give Gordon Hayward a max offer sheet, that will be dumbest move of free agency."

Don't blame em' for staying away from a potential AK 2.0 case. I was referring to stuff like the following:

Apparently he finds Patrick's behavior cute rather than shoving his *** out of his way. And other cases I could recall.
