Is Gordon Hayward overrated?

When Hayward chokes (again) next year people are really going to be surprised/upset about it, so I'll post this now and bump it later..

Dude averaged 11 points a game vs the Spurs this season.. They were 1-2 vs the rockets with him and 1-0 without him.

this is the player thats going to lead the Jazz past the Warriors?? WTF are you smoking ??? People around here talk about him like the Jazz couldn't possibly extract equal value in return for him..

No matter how much you hope and lie to yourself about it, Hayward is not this teams Derek Jeter.. He's not even close.

He played 46 minutes in that OT loss to the Clippers backups.. What a Gamechanger!! He deserves LeBron $$$!!! He had 7 turnovers in that game..

Hayward is making the decsision to try to trade him before next years deadline an easy one.I can't wait til he's gone, wouldn't be surprised if it had a positive effect on the team, like taking the training wheels off.

lettuce not forget that the FO could potentially rip some hopeful playoff team off for Hayward next season.. To not consider that because your so smitten with his talents would be a grievous oversight.

That's just it. The Jazz are. They matched what another team was willing to pay for him. Hayward would get that kind of money from almost every single team in the league. That's the NBA now a days.

If we all think we have tight wad owners now just wait till you see the complaining if they don't match normal league salaries/contracts...

The Hayward hate is stupid, just like I think the Burke hate is dumb. However I am absolutely open to seeing if there is a deal for Hayward that will make the team better.

You said it Stoked, "normal league salaries/contracts", not maxing out a borderline allstar. It's very simple. We'll see what happens when the time comes. I just wouldn't like to get stuck with Hayward being our #1 option as many thinks that he is when it's clear that we need an upgrade in that category (franchise player).

I know Coach Quinn has spoken about the '04 Pistons and trying to emulate that type of team success.. They had "Mr. Big Shot" Chauncey Billups as a team leader though.. Gordon "How does my hair look" Hayward isn't that dude, not even close.. He'd prefer to win all the games by 10-15 and avoid crunchtime.

For Hayward that is a normal contract. If the Jazz don't pay him that another team will. I am not saying the jazz have to keep him. I am saying its foolish to act like the Jazz overpaid him.

On the 1# option point we, and most of the board actually, agree. He would be a fantastic #2 but is not a #1.

Burks was filling that role for a while. It doesn't have to be Hayward. Hood and Lyles are also future possibilities.

He's close to being the player that can lead us deep into the playoffs, but he's not the guy. He might still get better though. I disagree with some here in that I think Hayward does have a killer instinct and gives 100%, but he just falls short a little on talent/athleticism. Favors, on the other hand has all of the talent/athleticism but falls short on effort, especially in crunch time. He definitely lacks that killer instinct. Rudy is the guy that has the killer instinct but will he ever reach his potential? The more I see him play I think Lyles might be the key to our next five years. He looks like he could become a all-star.

Don't you see how thats just viable for the regular season though?? IMO that almost seems like leading the sheep to the slaughterhouse..

They're gonna wait all these years to bake cakes to then realize that you can't outduel the likes of Klay/Curry, Harden, Kahwi/Aldridge, Paul/Griffin, Durant/Westbrook with players making roleplayer $$ and on rookie deals?? (While paying Hayward like he's Derek Jeter)

I sincerely believe this FO can't possibly be that type of stupid..
.

Hayward left a trail of evidence that he wasn't ready for the big-time in the last 10 games of the season, I figured that would happen in the playoffs, the last game vs Dallas was more than enough to draw a conclusion on though.. The end of regulation vs GS was bad too.

I wish I had the energy to say this a thousand more times than I've already said it: Hayward can't be our best perimeter offensive and defensive player. He needs help in both those areas. He isn't a guy who can stop the biggest threat on D, then get you what you need on O. I think the offense can be fine with Hayward, Hood, one other player at their level of getting buckets; but we need a perimeter stopper not named Hayward.

C'mon guys, Gordie's a very good player. Let's all give him another year and see what happens then. I'm willing to stick with him another year or so. Group huuug~

I think GH is slightly overrated.

Begrudgingly, I'll admit he might be our best player right now (him of Favors, whom I adore). He'll probably always be a "max" player by the idiocy of NBA free agency. But he'll never be the #1 guy on a championship contender, not even close. And I think he's peaking as a player.

I'm also slightly biased against him because he just sort of rubs me the wrong way. Between his website/blog that he always promotes on twitter and that damn hair cut, he seems a little too into himself for my liking. He's certainly not alone in that, all of the other stars sell out to cash in while they can. I just don't think that GH is in the same tier as those guys, nor will he ever be. Popovich has a quote once that he likes the Spurs to draft players who have "gotten over themselves," a la Kawhi Leonard. I loved that. He and I are soulmates, Pop - he just doesn't know it yet.

Bottom line - GH is a very good player, probably a little overrated IMO, and should not be untouchable if we have the opportunity to acquire a real franchise player in the draft or via trade.

I can find countless people around here who think it'd be prudent to pay him like a #1 though... thats the discrepancy i'm posting about..
