I can find countless people around here who think it'd be prudent to pay him like a #1 though... thats the discrepancy i'm posting about..

Because other teams will pay him what he is getting here. That's my point. That, good or bad, is his worth in this league. I won't fault the Jazz for that.

That's just it. The Jazz are. They matched what another team was willing to pay for him. Hayward would get that kind of money from almost every single team in the league. That's the NBA now a days.

I disagree with the generality that because other teams will pay a player something means that we should as well.

Should we have kept kanter and matched the offer that portland gave him like okc did? Just because portland and okc (and probably many other teams) would pay kanter what he is currently making does not mean we should.

Same thing applies with hayward imo. Just because some other teams would give him 5 years 150 million does not necessarily mean we should too.

He's close to being the player that can lead us deep into the playoffs, but he's not the guy. He might still get better though. I disagree with some here in that I think Hayward does have a killer instinct and gives 100%, but he just falls short a little on talent/athleticism. Favors, on the other hand has all of the talent/athleticism but falls short on effort, especially in crunch time. He definitely lacks that killer instinct. Rudy is the guy that has the killer instinct but will he ever reach his potential? The more I see him play I think Lyles might be the key to our next five years. He looks like he could become a all-star.

That escalated quickly. Sorry for bothering you, Boris. I personally don't blame Hayward. He's a solid player, flawed like they all are, but our problems were bigger than him this season.

Hayward has not missed many games in his career but it would be interesting to find the games that he did miss and see what our offensive efficiency was during those games and if we won or lost the games at a higher rate than we did when he was healthy and in the lineup.

I do remember a nice win this year against cleveland with no hayward. I'm curious to how we fared in the past when he missed games.

Missed games are too small of a sample to be meaningful statistically. Look at the teams offensive rating when he was on/off the court. Quinn tried hard to minimize the damage when he was off the court in many ways but the offense often stalled regardless.

He's a very good player, but I do think he has peaked. If we are waiting for him to have some kind of breakthrough I don't think we're being realistic. At this point, he is what he is. He's arguably the best we have, but I agree with what others have said - he's not the #1 guy on a contending team.

What we need is a superstar AND Gordon Hayward (plus for our PG issues to work out; hopefully Exum, and a few more solid bench guys). Sadly we will probably have to draft a superstar if we are going to get one.
