What's new

With the 52nd Pick the Utah Jazz Select Joel Bolomboy

And yet we didn't play Withey. Speights may fit the roster better. A legit 4/5 who hit 38% on 3's last year. Granted it was on just 62 attempts but still.

Withey played when we needed him to, when Gobert got injured. You don't need your back-up center to get regular rotation minutes, you just need him if your main center goes down.

What's so legit about Speights?

He played minutes for a NBA title team and is big, can play d, and stretch the floor. That's something we don't have right now as Lyles will get destroyed on defense by pretty much every NBA 5.

I wouldn't know. I think it's a definite possibility though.

I think the coaching staff has more trust in George hill and exum than mack or neto though.

Mack and neto are third (and fourth) stringers.

I disagree, I think Mack and Neto both proved themselves as legitimate 2nd string PG's in teh NBA.

He played less minutes per game than Withey and could barely get on the floor in the playoffs even though their starting center got injured.

Fair enough. I won't argue against you on that

I would be fine with a pg rotation of hill, exum, neto.

Because Withey had to start a big chunk of games. And he played 8.4 minutes per game in the playoffs. That's not nothing and he didn't play more because of their want to go small.

And we have been saying we will trade/cut Burke for the past 2 years, hasnt happened.
We needed him to start the season, as I think it was just him and Neto to start the year. I think the Jazz have tried and failed over the last year to trade him. If he's not on the team this year, it's most likely going to be, because the Jazz bought out his contract.
I think Mack doesn't want to be a 3rd/4th string pg again and he will let the guy walk to pursue greener pastures.

U don't let Mack walk till u know Hill and Exum will work out. Mack is used to being that low on the depth chart anyway

High motor, excellent rebounding kid that is still developing the mid range game he's gonna need. Good body and the kid has the "want to". Could be a taller Millsap.

I'm thinking a more skilled Faried more then he is a Millsap type. He's super athletic lighter and taller. 6-9 225lb where as Millsap came in at 6-7 245. U could tell coming in he had good form on his jumpshot, he just never used it or developed it in college. Bolomboy's jumper has a bit of a hitch. He holds the ball in his jumpshot and releases it late while coming down. That could be a problem, but if worked on he could have potential as a floor spacer

Biggest thing with Nolomboy is that he doesn't have a good feel for the game. Maybe that will come.

Interesting enough, he has a Ukranian passport. Might stash him?

I'll try not to be too long winded, but basically my in-laws have Weber State season tix, court side, and they never use them. I've probably seen all but 5 or 6 of Bolomboy's home games during his time at Weber.

He was SO raw as a Freshman but you could see the NBA body was there. His biggest improvement over the years has been his footwork and his college coach will be the first to tell you that. He's really turned himself into a good face up jump shooter (still has to get better) and by his senior year he even started taking and making a couple of 3's. I think the best thing you can say about the kid is that each and every year, he got better. There was constant improvement and he was always praised by his coaches for not being complacent and working to get better. Dude is a rebounding monster and as I said earlier, a high motor guy. A taller Trevor Booker is s really good comp IMO.

I'm a bit of a homer on this kid but he's an NBA player. Never be an All-Star, but will make the team, give us a solid 6-8 years, and qualify as yet another Lindsay late round steal.

You beat me to this post and took the words out my mouth. been attending weber state games on the reg (even got to see almost every game of D-Lil's career). He is a high character guy that i (and Utah Jazz staff have also admitted) cant believe he dropped down to the 50s. An athlete of his breed, if they can combine the freak measurables with some actual skills (hes a rebounder, and becoming at least a decent shooter for a pf), then they stick in the league. He will stick.

On a related note, how is Randy Rahe still coaching at Weber? It's cool if he wants to, but he obviously(or others on his staff) can develop players and has a pretty good eye for finding hidden gems in recruiting. He deserves offers.

He had Damian Lilliard for essentially 3 good years. You know, the Damian Lilliard who won Rookie of the Year, daggered Houston in the playoffs, scored 50 this year against the Warriors guy, and NEVER made the NCAA tournament with him.

Rahe is good with recruiting, and good with developing guys, but he's not that good x and o guy from a D-I college perspective. We have a pretty awful non-conference road record under Rahe. Really good home non-conference record because people refuse to play us in our building. Rahe is bad at adjusting his game plan when other team stops his initial one.

They can't believe he dropped to fifty, buts not like they were enamored with him enough to draft him at 42.

i dont think they were really enamored with anyone (within reach) in this draft, that much is becoming clear.
