What's new

With the 52nd Pick the Utah Jazz Select Joel Bolomboy

On a related note, how is Randy Rahe still coaching at Weber? It's cool if he wants to, but he obviously(or others on his staff) can develop players and has a pretty good eye for finding hidden gems in recruiting. He deserves offers.

He had Damian Lilliard for essentially 3 good years. You know, the Damian Lilliard who won Rookie of the Year, daggered Houston in the playoffs, scored 50 this year against the Warriors guy, and NEVER made the NCAA tournament with him.

Rahe is good with recruiting, and good with developing guys, but he's not that good x and o guy from a D-I college perspective. We have a pretty awful non-conference road record under Rahe. Really good home non-conference record because people refuse to play us in our building. Rahe is bad at adjusting his game plan when other team stops his initial one.

You beat me to this post and took the words out my mouth. been attending weber state games on the reg (even got to see almost every game of D-Lil's career). He is a high character guy that i (and Utah Jazz staff have also admitted) cant believe he dropped down to the 50s. An athlete of his breed, if they can combine the freak measurables with some actual skills (hes a rebounder, and becoming at least a decent shooter for a pf), then they stick in the league. He will stick.
They can't believe he dropped to fifty, buts not like they were enamored with him enough to draft him at 42.

i dont think they were really enamored with anyone (within reach) in this draft, that much is becoming clear.

I'm thinking a more skilled Faried more then he is a Millsap type. He's super athletic lighter and taller. 6-9 225lb where as Millsap came in at 6-7 245. U could tell coming in he had good form on his jumpshot, he just never used it or developed it in college. Bolomboy's jumper has a bit of a hitch. He holds the ball in his jumpshot and releases it late while coming down. That could be a problem, but if worked on he could have potential as a floor spacer
I like the faried comp

In all those clips. He's the only guy on the floor that looks like an NBA player.

Surprised everyone thinks he is such a lock to make the team. I certainly think he can and has a good shot, but I would put his chances at 40%.

Of course we going to trade/cut some of those players, but you have to think we are going to sign a player or two in FA.

Johnson isn't under contract and I would assume under the circumstances that he won't be back. Mack has a team option that I would assume after last seasons performance would be picked up. I would be stunned if it isn't. And a trade has to be coming that moves several players out of here in return for draft picks and releasable players. There's no way we start the season with this many guards. I was upset that no move was made last night. After the moves we'll have a better understanding of where Bolomboy fits... I hope.

Just guessing but Bolomboy looks like he has the size, quickness, and athleticism to guard 4, maybe even all 5 positions.
That has to be a valuable player in todays NBA

This guy like Aminu? Bad at everything except playing hard and being athletic? Sign me up

Problem is he's a bit mechanical and not all that smooth. Guards will beat him because he doesn't seem to have the greatest instincts for that kind of defense.

Bolomboy has a LOT he needs to learn and get better at. Shooting and feel for the game are the two biggest things. If he can learn those things, he can be good, but now he's going against the NBA game where he's average as an athlete yet completely inferior intelligence wise, so he's going to be eaten alive in his current state.

He can get there where he can play 25 minutes a game and be positive statistically. It's all on him since he doesn't have the excuse of being inferior athletically to the NBA game.
