My expectations for the Jazz this summer:

First, I do think Utah makes a big signing this summer.

drum roll....

Derrick Favors. I do believe that after three years you can renegotiate your deal. The Jazz do that. Instead of Favors taking two years to make 20 million, the Jazz sign Favors to a 3-4 year deal around 75 million (over 20 per year). It's good for Favors, because he gets more money now, and if he gets a three year deal he will still make a ton of money over his career (more than if he waited out his current deal) and it helps the Jazz keep the cap number down as they would get Favors a lot cheaper on that third year.

Then they extend Hill out for three years.

I think they make a run at Dudley to be a stretch four. I'd bet we give him a two year deal, around 10-12 per year.

I still think we need a better starting wing and would love to push Hood to the bench. Then we are really, really good. BUT, I don't think that happens with the Favors renegotiation and Hayward next year. Hayward, Favors and Exum is our core and that is our future.

The Jazz buy out Burke and don't re-up Mack's contract. Why keep Mack and Neto was solid and a lot cheaper?

So, we will look like this come Oct:

Hill, Exum, Neto
Hood/Burks/Hill
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/Dudley/Lyles
Gobert/Favors/Withey

I like that team. Hopefully we stay around .500 through Jan and then hopefully come Feb Exum really starts to come into his own and takes the starting job. That then makes us look like this:

Exum/Hill/Neto
Hill/Hood/Burks
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/Dudley/Lyles
Gobert/Favors/Withey

I know I have Hill starting over Hood, but they are interchangeable. I put Hill starting because he is a better shooter and a better defender. He can space the floor for Exum and defend better. That being said, I see minutes looking like this:

Beginning of the year:

Hill (25), Exum (15), Neto (12)
Hood (25), Burks (20), Hill (8)
Hayward (30), Hood (8), Ingles (8), Burks (8)
Favors (25), Dudley (15), Lyles (15)
Gobert (30), Favors (8), Lyles (10), Withey (8)

End of the year:

Exum (25), Hill (15), Neto (12)
Hill (10), Hood (20), Burks (25)
Hayward (30), Hood (10), Burks (8), Ingles (8)
The rest the same.

I think if this team can stay around .500 until the end of Jan and if Exum can develop like the Jazz hope, we can make a run at 45-50 wins at the end of the season.

That is what I expect from Utah and I am ok with it. Should be fun to actually see a good team that can compete for the playoffs this year.

You only have 12 players. League rules require 13.

Scrubs. Irrelevant players. The kid from Weber St. Some kid from training camp. I'm not too worried about the Jeremy Evans and Chris Johnson's of the world.

Neither am I but I think it'll be Bolomboy and Johnson.

I agree with what goes down with Favors and Hill. Also I am also advocating for Dudley, or a similar player, to back up Hayward.

I think the Jazz are north of .500 all season.

Hill/Exum/Neto
Hood/Burks/Johnson
Hayward/Dudley/Ingles
Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
Gobert/Withey/Pleiss

There is a possibility that instead of a SF they focused on a big with an outside shot.

Stoked - wasn't Dudley used as a PF last year? I had him pegged as a SF but saw that Washington used him as a stretch 4 last year, so I put him down as our stretch big.

I think Utah would rather find a C to be the stretch four, but I don't know if that guy exists at the price the Jazz would want to pay.

So, I had Dudley as our stretch four.

I agree with what you said. Think we extend Favors and Hill.

I think we'll trade Mack, tbh. His cheap contract makes him fairly valuable, and I think they'd rather have Neto. Burke will probly get bought out. I love Dudley, but I do wonder how much he can play at the 3. If the prices are similar, I'd rather we bring in Soloman Hill.

I don't think Lyles and Dudley could play together very well tbh. Neither are rim protectors...need a rim protector to play with them IMO.

Lol they'll keep Neto for the ladies.

For me (since Durant and DeRozan are pipe dreams) I'd say that they need to add veteran depth. Give me Pau Gasol and Jared Dudley on 2/3 year contracts. Dudley has shifted between SG, SF and PF over the past three seasons. I see him as Hayward's backup at the 3. Then extend Favors, Hill and Gobert. Outside of Hayward (who I expect back as well), all of your core guys are locked up long term (or you control their rights) and you still have some assets to make a move if needed.

Gobert, Gasol, Favors, Lyles, Hayward, Hood, Burks, Exum and Hill make up your core group. Mack, Neto, Jingles, Dudley and Withey all round things out for depth and glue guys. Gives the Jazz one spot left to decide between Bolomboy, Pleiss and Johnson. Maybe even consider bringing Booker back of the price is right.

Would love Pau, but he probably wants to start (and would deserve to). Doubt he comes here...but man what a great fit he would be.
