What's new

Life - official thread

- trip to Kentucky nearing the end (thank God)
- long *** trip back to St. George. Leaving Thursday.
- had some great food... saw a ton of backerd folks.
- I hate humidity.
- my daughter has been diagnosed with her 4th baby.
- threw her a baby shower for the ages yesterday. Spoiled the **** out of her (maybe that will be her birth control?)

I once pulled a kid out of a river. Tried to resuscitate him. Didn't succeed.

Dang that sucks. I did that once. We had an aed and the kid lived. Later figured out it was from congenital heart failure.

The situation yesterday ducked because the guy was basically choosing to drown in front of me. I was screaming at him to stay where he was safe on a rock mid river, but he was too drunk and hyperthermic to understand. He was under water for 30 seconds at one point. Finally got to him and rescued him, and by circumstance of rowing though the next rapid, punched him in the head ten or so times. He was laying under my oars as I rowed. It was awesome.

Yeah. It did suck. By the time I came upon the scene the kid had been underwater for a while. He was with a scout troop tubing, went under a bridge in very fast whitewater and never came out. The scoutmaster was a complete mental mess. Nobody was even searching for him. Everyone was just screaming for someone else to come help. My buddy and I got under the bridge, and by hanging off the trestles finally located him with our feet. He was doubled over a log that had become wedged in there. There was no way to pull him off the log because he was obese and the water pressure pushing him into the log was really high. We finally got the log free and the body floated out. We pulled him to shore. He was purple from the cold and lack of oxygen. We tried CPR until the ambulance arrived and then they took over, but I later learned (not surprisingly) that he never showed any response.

Provo, right below the Deer Creek dam
I know the exact bridge I think. I could see how that would happen. So unfortunate. Horrible horrible situation.
