According to whom? How reliable is the info? Has it been verified? Not sure why this is hard to comprehend. You don't just automatically believe everything you read on the internet do you? So why do you believe THIS particular item?
I'm not attacking, I genuinely want to know why you believe this.
Let's start with: Where did you quote the OP from? Please provide a link.
Because it's way more money than any comparable pick swap I've heard of in the past.
Most 2nd round pick swaps are in the 1-2 million dollar range, I wouldn't call 3 million way more. If a team wants to get the deal done, are they really going to scoff at a team asking for 3 million?
Factor in Brooklyn is desperate to get young talent so they can have any semblance of optimism for their fan base and the guy they were targeting was a hometown player. Then factor in their owner is one of the richest men in the world w/ a net worth of 8.6 billion dollars.
In a league where role players are getting paid 15+ million a year IDK why this surprises you so much that you can't even believe a reputable source.
Now we've come full circle. Is it a reputable source? That's what I've been trying to find out.

Imagine the Jazz were completely awful and traded away all their future picks. They have no future picks, one good player, and no one wants to sign with them because they suck. The Jazz try to overpay to get two young players, but both offers are matched by the player's previous team. The Jazz owner is filthy rich in this scenario too.
The Jazz are desperate at this point. They trade for a 1st round pick, but they want more since they won't have a picks in the next two drafts. A University of Utah or BYU star (this player was also a Utah HS star) is on the board, but the Jazz fear they will be picked before it's their turn to pick. They know for a fact that if they don't trade up now, the next team will pick him. They call up the team currently on the clock. This team knows the Jazz are desperate and they know they want the local star. Is that team really just going to give away the pick for 1,000,000, or are they going to ask for the highest price possible, 3,000,000? They are going to ask for 3,000,000 and with how much money is being paid in the NBA now, the Jazz won't be able to say no.
Your team is worthless, you might as well pay to get a young player your immediate fan base recognizes and reveres. It will help sell tickets and maybe create some interest. Pay 3,000,000 for a guy you know will make your team and you will pay pennies for on a rookie scale isnt a bad deal by any means.

The Celtics had 8 draft picks in this draft. 4 teams had a full 25% of the picks in the first round. NO TEAM needs that many picks so the selling price should have been lower than normal. The free agency splurging context happened AFTER the draft so funny money wasn't really in play to that extent.
Does anyone know how much we paid to buy the pick from the Nuggets that got us Gobert? I think it was around $1.3 million. I think we paid less than $1 million for Neto. And in both cases we flat out bought the picks. The nets paid $3 million in a weak draft to move up 13 spots. Seriously, Dennis is the bomb!

I think your price estimate on Gobert is about right, but you are forgetting that there was a pick swap involved as well. We ended up drafting Eric Green for them (I think). Either way, it looks to me like DL won both of these trades.

There was a swap this this case as well. We didn't just sell the pick, we swapped and got $3 million. I remember reading a number years ago and I want to say 1.3. But it has been a while and I couldn't find anything about it on google. Either way, if all we get out of our 8 remaining 2nd round picks is $3 million a pop, I would be thrilled that we have $24 million to show for our weeping and dealing. Bravo dl.
