About Active Posters...

This is a sad sight for me. Is the activity going down or is it just that more and more people are now using the app and it does not show the active posters in the desktop site?

I used to check out that place and it would at least have 5-6 posters at least. There also is an info that says there once were near 4000 users active in June 2016. Crazy.

Offseason, it always drops off. It will pick up when the season starts.

Also some posters tend to drive new posters away. Sad.

I visit, of an on, about a dozen message boards. Sadly this is one of the most vitriolic and trollerish poster bases of all the boards I frequent. This includes 2 other Jazz/NBA boards and a few hobby boards as well as a couple news boards. In my experience we have a disproportionate number of people who get off on trolling other posters and it definitely influences posters. All in the infantile attitude of "suck it up and be a man" when people here speak out against it. It is sad.

Why was the high on 6/6/16? Usually it's on draft night, maybe the day after but that was not draft night nor the day after.

This board has had some good windows of time since the crash back in 2010, but it has never really recovered from that. I'd expect some slow melt off of activity and quality through the jazz's rebuilding years, but I think the crash provided some extra impetus for parts of the old stable core to break away.

That said, the old site had just as many acrimonious squabbles as today, there was just so many other styles of conversation/posting as well. A few years ago I wrote about the three main "dark angels" of JFC. I won't mention those names again, but I think I was onto something at the time.

I think we'll see a surge of new activity this year when the jazz are good again. There'll be plenty of people run off (and it'll be interesting to see who's doing the chasing), but there'll be plenty of people who stick around, too.

How are my platitudes this morning?

remember Jamezz? Does anybody care that he got run off? Sometimes it's good when an online community expels some of it's crap.

I agree whole-heartedly.

Oh, and...

JFC is full of die-hard fans. I think that is kind of what separates it from other message boards, specifically other Jazz message boards (RealGM's Jazz board being the only other one that I know of with any kind of regular poster activity). I think that just makes it hard for new people to get into the board.

Also, I think that nearly every stone that can be turned is turned on JFC (outside of someone who really wants to/has the skill to put the effort to do long-form technical analysis), so some people may just not feel the need to vocalize opinions that are already being shouted ad nauseam. For the longest time I never posted on JFC because of this. I would just get on to read what people where thinking, but never really felt the desire to vocalize my opinion because it was generally already represented.

Also, like NAOS said, the Jazz have sucked and that probably drives down activity because some people will lose interest investing so much time into a team that isn't making the playoffs. I think you can see that in Log. The Jazz have sucked and that has brought down his activity level and he has returned with a more pessimistic outlook, probably to preserve his emotional state as getting his hopes up to only be let down isnt something he wants to go through again with this same core group of players. For the most par the positive people stick around, so Log finds the overwhelming positivity to be weird, but I think that it's just the kind of people who continue to post on a team's message board who haven't won a playoff series in 6 years (or whatever it is).

Actually I am a die-hard fan. Your inability to see your own trolling/abusive ways is indicative of what I was getting at.

And I have taken time off from the board at various times for various reasons, as many do, but I agree the quality of posting on the board has dropped significantly since the crash, and good posters have been replaced by trolls in many instances, further dragging things down. It is still a decent board, but no where near what it was or could be if we didn't have to deal with that level of BS from "established" posters who in the end have nothing of substance to say and refute legitimate discourse with insults. Used to be the "aintnuthin's" were the exception, now they are the rule.

Did I ever say you werent a die-hard? I said JFC is full of die-hards and you have 15k post on a site that has a niche of being obsessed fans, so that qualifies you as a "die-hard" in my eyes.

There are maybe 5 trolls (and they are all easily ignored) on JFC and I'm not one of them.

Aintnutthin, CJ (though he is still here, but post way less than he use to) and Dutchjazzer were alive and well in the supposed "glory days" of JFC and those three where way worse and less avoidable than any current troll on JFC.

I agree. The quality of this board for the most part is a combination of day old feces and regurgitated corn beef hash. The sarcasm level is super high and the polarity of the posters is what drags this board down.

People here can be so mean at me :(

It's mainly because you're an idiot. Eat rocks.

For me, it's the Twitter effect because posts are so short. The app and the ability to post from a phone has hurt the quality of message boards, for the most part. "Back in the old days", posts were written on a desktop or laptop and the post was often long and structured. Ain't nobody got time for that now. Posts are short because nobody wants to type a long message on a phone and nobody wants to read a long message on a phone. Why go to a message board when I can see the same thing on Twitter?

TL/DR: TL/DR

Agreed. This is one reason I don't post as much as I have in the past simply because my computer time is used for other things. I do make posts from my phone but it is a major pain in the *** so often it is easier to just not post. It is too bad because we used to have very good discourse here with a variety of opinions on a different subjects that is somewhat lacking more recently, with snippets instead of statements. This also leads to making it easier for posters to insult rather than reply, as a reply would more often than not require some time to compose something. A terse "you're stupid" is much faster and easier than a reasoned response.
