Do you support these protests against Trump?

While impossible, I would be interested in seeing the ratio of 1 red, 1 blue vote versus 1 red/blue vote, third party/no vote of the last two presidential elections.

The reason is the poster who posted the voter numbers for republicans the last 4 elections. Not much change among the four. Knowing this ratio would guide the parties and where to campaign, toward the centrists or the extremes. More one vote to third party/no votes would suggest going after extremes, more 1 red and 1 blue vote would suggest going after the centrist vote.

ONLY problem I have with the discussion here is that somehow everyone that voted for Trump is a racist and it's the only reason he got the vote. Helps with the hurting?

It's a truly ridiculous notion.

I would completely agree that a racist would be much more likely to vote for Trump than Hillary... but give me a break that racism won an election following a two term black President.

It is not a ridiculous notion. When he uses coded language and has the overwhelming support of self-proclaimed racist organizations and people it is not at all ridiculous to assume the basis of people's support for him is their sympathy for racist ideology.

How so many are acting like it is ridiculous for people to make that connection is, in itself, ridiculous.

Trump absolutely based his campaign on a form of Nationalism. Nationalism doesn't have to have a racial element, but it most often does to at least some degree. Couple that with proposing a ban on Muslims, his insistence on pushing the "birther" BS far beyond the point of reason, building a wall that can only really serve as a symbolic division between what an American is and what a Mexican is... and so on. Not to mention that he's gone to court for issues relating to racial discrimination and has, long before his Presidential run, been heard saying flat out racist things.

I've said all along that one does not need to actually be a racist to support Trump. But I do think a person has to be somewhat apathetic to racism or to feel other issues are far more important than racism.

I personally could not support him because racism is a go/no-go issue for me. He was a definate no-go. I'm probably on the extreme end of the spectrum as far as a native born caucasian when it comes to my sensitivity to racism, and I don't think everyone has to be as sensitive as I am. But as Trump just kept piling it on I really had a hard time understanding how he had not crossed more people's threshold for how much racism they would tolerate from a Presidential candidate.

Thanks for the PM. I am wel aware GF and I are arguing different things (as that's what I said, also).
I also agree we are both right, in part... but, again, I just wasn't okay with the cop out of, "America is racist and that's why Trump was elected"

It's not healthy to ignore the many other issues that a whole lotta Americans have with socialistic programs, establishment politicians, etc. this election was WAY more anti-establishment than it was about suppressing minorities. Look beyond the sound bytes.

Okay, clearly we agree that not everyone who voted for Trump is a racist.

I'm not baking down from my point, however. Everyone who voted for Trump has more tolerance for racism than I do and/or feels like there are other issues that are far more important than racism.

Trump's campaign was racist. Either you chose to ignore or look past that part of it or you are sympathetic to it.

I just pointed out that on election night Trump was leading the popular vote until they stayed reporting California which flipped it in Hilary's favor. The last I saw the numbers if you took out the California vote Trump would win the overall popular vote. Just an observation.
