Excited for Hayward

I, for one, was pretty upset initially when we drafted Hayward. Over the past few hours though I have done some soul searching and have decided I like him. For a couple of reasons, 1. No use in complaining about it, we got him, might as well support him. 2. I like what he potentially brings to the team.

For years we have been saying we need a wing who can handle the ball and make plays to take pressure off Dwill. If Hayward can do anything well, its ball-handling and play-making ability for his size. True he isnt going to dazzle anyone with his speed or quickness, but I think he has enough craftiness to still be an effective 2nd option playmaker along side Dwill. He is also going to be a good shooter in the league. True he didnt shoot well this year, but that was mostly due to him being the main player on his team and difficulty of shots.

I know a big concern for him is defense, which it should be. He is going to need to improve his body if he wants to be a legitimate starter, but here is how I see it. He cant be any worse of a defender than Kyle Korver, and he probably even has a higher BBall IQ. So as our 3rd wing player (replacing KK) we actually improve our defense and rebounding.

I like the pick. We need to win now and I think this pick helps. The kids got game. George/Davis would have taken time which we do not have if we want to keep Deron around. Give him a chance.

You may not love the pick but it's WAAAAY to early to call this draft a terrible draft. Who knows maybe they have a trade in the works for a big...

I hope we dont trade Hayward, I've spent the last couple of hours legitimizing this pick, I now love him.

Using a top-10 pick to mildly improve the defense and rebounding of a backup wing seems like a pretty unproductive way to go.

Then again, maybe he'll come back in the fall built like Matt Harpring with the jump shot of Kyle Korver and the defense of Trevor Ariza and a girlfriend who looks like Brian Zoubek's.

Or maybe not.

Hmmm.... some deep soul searching there.

He can't be any worse a defender than Kyle Korver? What leads you to this conclusion? Korver is a better defender than given credit for, AND he has actually been defending NBA players, as opposed to college players.

He 'probably' even has a better basketball IQ? While Korver is often knocked for his defense, he is usually given credit for having a high basketball IQ.

So, replacing Korver with Hayward, we improve our defense and rebounding? Won't even ask how you got to this one.

Yep, plug the new guy right in... I'm sure he is NBA-ready and will be good to go!! While you're at it, you might want to try that soul searching thing again...

Korver is a horrible defender, I will give him credit that he did the best with his physical abilities, but that doesnt change the fact his defense sucked. Hayward is a bigger and better athlete with just as high basketball IQ, no reason he shouldnt be a better defender than KK.

Rebounding. Um he is 6-8 and averaged 8 rebounds in College, he is a better rebounder than Korver.

I've also done some soul searching and I'm no longer a believer. I've completely lost my faith in KOC, Sloan and Greg Miller. It was wavering last season and now it is gone. For now, I will still hold out hope that something else will be done come July. If not, I'll find a new team to worship or just remain agnostic.

On the old board back in December I posted a thread about Kyle Singler and Gordon Hayward as possibilities for the Knicks pick. I got laughed off and belittled by every poster saying "way too early"...Including Honz - thats a fact. So I'm happy we got him, but as far as getting a wing who can create and contribute now Babbitt should've been our guy. I still am high on Hayward, but even higher on Babbitt. We'll see.

I'm amazed at how many have been panicking about this pick.

COLLEGE, huh? This guy will be playing in Orem. Then again, he does have that 29% 3 point average going for him.

Many teams would have loved to have picked him (Thunder, Pacers, Celtics) and were trying to move up to get him. I do not believe that they were all wrong. Also, if any of you watched Babbit and Hayward in college you would see what I did, that Hayward is something special and Babbit is a risk. Hayward wins and makes everyone better. His #'s were not great this season but if you actually watch his games you would come away very happy with our pick. Rumor has it, we tried to move up but were unable to do so. We did not fill a specific need yet (ak) but we picked the best player available, which I wanted all along. Great day Jazzfanz

Where is the source that states all of these teams wanted to move up to get Hayward??
