Rudy Gobert "Greatest Jazz Center of All Time" Countdown Thread

#15 Felton Spencer

Points 1390
Rebounds 721
Blocks 153
Steals 73
Assists 71

I guess I was young when we aquired Spencer in a trade for Big Brown Bear Mike Brown, but I remember being excited about getting a center "who could play a little offense!" Mark Eaton had just retired and didn't have near the popularity he enjoys today. Formally a #6 draft choice of the Pesky Timberwolves, he wasn't really living up to the expecations that got him drafted that high. Although he could never bring the defensive production of a Mark Eaton, he scored just under 10 points a game for three seasons for the Jazz as they transitioned from upstarts to Western Conference playoff mainstays. Unfortunately, Spencer's run was ended by a nasty achillies injury that forced the contending Jazz to go a different direction while Spencer rehabbed. Spencer landed in Orlando and the Jazz landed in the finals two years later. Spencer played 3 seasons for the Utah Jazz.

I don't understand. Gobert has WAY more stats than Spencer. Surely he's in the top 10 by now.

even if he isn't stats-wise, I mean he has to be firmly in the top 3. He'll soon pass Okur, especially if he gets nominated for the ASG (which is inevitable). So it's just him and Eaton, and we all know who the better player truly is.

Rudy is certainly more impactful in the modern era, but Eaton was such a defensive force for a few years there, didn't he average like 5 bpg on year? Obviously the game is a bit different now, and Eaton would get eaton alive out there. lol.

Eaton wouldn't average 5 blocks a game in today's game. Gobert could've averaged 5+ agam in Eaton's day

At 1:29 Felton Spencer is TALKING about Rudy Gobert. How meta is that for the purposes of this thread. . .

Watching the Foster Shaq highlight video reminds me of why I became a Jazz fan; Stockton was a wizard even in highlights that were not about him.

This guy I think has that star ego that sees himself above others without any reflection of humbleness. I have seen him hang around with Eaton, have interview with Ostertag. Both had the same face your friend makes when that the guy next to him is an acehole and no fun to hang around with at all.
