Cakk Bakkers Part Deux: repentance thread

We might be up 3-0.... even without Rudy.... but the roster isn't built.

Rudy deserves to fill his tank with some sweet playoff nectar -- and he would still probably have that chance -- if the roster were built.

With who? I'm all for improving this roster but let's talk specifics not we should have more better players. Every team in the NBA could say that. Clearly we need a better back up center. I'm not sure one was out there.

Even just keeping Trevor Booker. What about Motiejunas? PJ Tucker? Omri Casspi? Bogut (and don't automatically dole out the poor logic that he'd have just gotten hurt here, too)? There are dozens of names, braugh.

I just commented on Booker in the other thread. I think it was safe to let him go assuming Lyles would at worst be the same as he was his rookie year. No one thought he would regress that bad. Besides we are getting beat up at back up center with our starter out right now. Favors, JJ and Diaw can hold down the PF spot and would be in the playoffs if we had the center spot filled. Booker is not slowing down DJ. 6'6" PJ Tucker is not helping us guard DJ. I was in favor of Bogut but he has not stayed healthy very much at all. He also has done very little when healthy this year. Maybe he would not have had the same injury but he might have. He clearly is falling apart and has been for awhile. That is the same as another team wishing they had traded for Favors and assumed he would be healthy for them and playing like old. I thought Casspri would have been an okay pickukp but again he is not helping us guard DJ and would get eaten alive much worse than Favors. He also is not better at PF than what we have. Motiejunas was risky but maybe would have helped us.

Who would we have got that would have slowed down DJ and helped with the pick and roll and keeping him off the boards? That is what we are struggling against. If Favors was playing his correct position PF we would be fine at that spot in the playoffs with Favors playing it and JJ backing him up. Diaw would be getting spot minutes there.

it obviously wasn't safe enough, right?

Also, Booker is bouncy and strong enough that, if he were on the roster, he'd be our best option on DJ. And a marginally better option right now could have us a 3-****ing-0.

Also, don't tell me that an additionally stretchy 4 wouldn't be helping us right now. Because we only have one (JJ).

Booker would not be better guarding DJ than what we have on our roster, if you think he would be able to box out and cover him on the pick and roll better than what Favors did in game 3 I guess we just are on very different points of view on that. Another stretch 4 might have helped but it would not have won us either game 2 or 3. DJ and CP3 beat us.

lol. ok, pal.

Why does Booker want to stay in Utah where his minutes aren't guaranteed? He went to Brooklyn for a bigger role to prove his worth in the league. Jazz would have had to overpay to keep him. We all would have flinched at 12 million a year for Booker.

Booker would be terrible at guarding DJ. It would negate his ability to crash teh glass from the weakside with his athleticism as he would have to put his all into just boxing out Jordan so he cant get rebounded over at the rim. Booker would be great RN in this series off the bench in our 2nd unit and probably playing some minutes next to Favors to help him with rebounding.

nobody just "guards DJ". They guard the PnR. And every one of our options right now is piss ****ing poor. I'm just going to LoL if you don't think that someone like Booker would be better in those scenarios than Diaw and Favors.

You must not be watching the game. The problem is the weakside help, not the guy guarding DeAndre. If you are asking Favors/Hill(or whoever is guarding the ball-handler) to guard it 2 on 2, you are going to get beat the majority of the time. Booker would be great at PF helping Favors, but not with him being the center of the defense.

I know how PnR defense works, pal. And our problems have gone waaaay ****ing far beyond weak-side help.

Q is basically electing to play it the same way that we would be with a healthy Gobert. And since our other options right now are some other version of ****, then I can't say I blame him too much since at least the adjacent strategy on Redick and Crawford is working.

So you think an undersize 4 playing the center of our defense like Rudy Gobert would be better? lmao

The answer is sending more help defense. Quin is going to have to throw more tricks at Paul. It seems like he had 1 in game 3: Ingles. That worked for the 1st half, but after that Paul just figured it out. We should have sent help more aggressively in the 4th to give him a new look.

lol, bud. Your answer is fine, but incomplete (i.e. we need more than what you're suggesting). And did I suggest that we'd play it the same way with someone with Booker's physical profile?? Answer: No I did not.

Look, I don't expect you to change your mind once you've set it. You're the most stubborn poster on JFC, probably. And while I'm willing to have my mind changed, you are doing nothing to move me from the fairly obvious conclusion that someone with Booker's physical profile would be better -- and provide more defensive options -- than what Favors and Diaw are providing. Did you notice the italics? Let me hold your hand on this: it means Booker could do more than hang back and be 90% helpless defending in space a la Diaw and Favors.

But this isn't even about Booker, exactly. It's about the ****ing hand-sitting that we're living through, again.

Pot calling the kettle black, holy ****.

dude, I could literally bump dozens of threads where Ellis, Handlogen's Heroes, GVC, franklin, Siro, babe and others have changed my mind and I've admitted so.

In other words, you're wrong; but I did enjoy your response more than the double-down option (which I was sure was coming).

Have fun with that
