A Big Move on the Horizon?

I think we are involved... teams were pissed they took the trade of the board for now... they probably told people that we need to get our new GMs opinion before finalizing this. We knew at that point we weren't getting anything done by the contract guarantee date. He wasn't necessary but if there was something close we probably keep it there just in case.

I think it's funny that some posters think two guys signed here just to never play... sefolosha made sense as we needed a 3 but as constituted we wouldn't play Udoh much at all and Jonas would get 5 minutes a night maybe. I think these guys likely had better options than spot minutes in Utah.
I thought Jonas was a 25 mpg game in Boston but it turns out it was just 15, so idk, maybe he would sign on w/o minutes guarantee.

I doubt telling people that you're going to trade someone to allow them to play is part of negotiating with FAs. Favors is our starting 4 and Jerebko and Udoh can each average 18 minutes a night.

Might not but might tell them we aren't done moving around.

Favs starts and plays how many minutes at PF... Rudy will play 35-36 minutes at center so there are 12 minutes available there. Jesus gets most of his minutes at backup 4 so is he taking 18-20 minutes there... so Favs gets 30 minutes a night say 18 at PF and 12 at center. Now there are no minutes for Udoh and Jonas is left with about 10 minutes.

There is maybe 10-15 minutes between those two guys.

So how is JJ getting minutes?

It doesn't add up... there are roughly 90 bench minutes to split up Exum gets 15ish, DM gets 15ish, JJ gets 20ish, thabo gets 15-20... leaves about 20 minutes max and I think we'd all like to see more for some of those guys.

I don't know. Maybe the numbers don't work out all that perfectly, but I expect 16-18 from Udoh as the primary backup 5 and 15-17 from Jerebko. There will be plenty of injuries and DNPs to go around.

If we trade Favors, it's because we're bringing in someone else who will play minutes, so the playing time issue I wouldn't say is an indicator of a trade.

This.

I think you might say there's a possibility that some minutes could open up that are not there now, but there's no way, I think, that DL gives an implied guarantee based on something as tenuous as a 3- or 4-team trade possibility.

What if it was a two for one trade.

I am with Cy here (which is weird)... these guys didn't sign here on reasonable deals to play spot minutes or injury replacement minutes.

Combine that with the other noise and facts around Favs and it's reasonable to think they are considering re configuring things a bit. Teams don't run 11 man rotations.

The only thing I can see is if they play Jonas/JJ/Udoh at the same time.

15 players

Assume that Burks/Bradley/Bolomboy/Neto dont get regular rotation minutes, so 11 players getting regular minutes?

That's seems difficult.

The only thing that makes it a little palatable is that I think you don't want to play Ingles more than 25 mpg or so even though he will be a starter. The same probably goes for Favors.

Thabo? DM? Exum?

Lots of minute questions... may not be resolved before the season... may not be resolved in spectacular fashion, but something will happen I think we are involved in conversations.

Yeah, IDK.

But at the end of the day, I think there is an above 50% chance Favors gets hurt at some point or gets traded.

If you look at their career minutes it makes perfect sense. I like these signings as much as the next guy, but these aren't exactly prime free agents. Nobody's beating down their door. As much as we think they may deal Favors if the right deal came along, it takes a willing partner to give you something you want. Just because you slicked your hair back, go out on the town, have your favorite cologne, and put a condom in your pocket, does mean you're getting laid.

I think Jonas was under utilized on a fairly deep roster. I think Udoh had similar money in Europe where he's a champ. I don't think we have more than 10 minutes to split between them and I think they may have had other options... if you think differently that's fine but between having non shooters at 4/5 and a pg that people can sag off of we are going to realllllyyyy struggle to score. I'm sure we are seriously considering things and urgency may pick up if we throw it out there and it doesn't work. We may see which players play best in the system first but it makes sense that we are in on these conversations.

I don't disagree with the spacing thing. It's a fairly flawed offensive concept but I think it's how we're rolling. Not sure what Cleveland is thinking but I think Exum and Favors gets it done for Love in a NY deal, but my suspicion is we wouldn't do that and would be afraid to trade Exum and have him end up being good.

Also, just because of fit and the need for perimeter guys for Rubio to dish to, I wouldn't be surprised if Jerebko took on a bigger role and scored 10+. I'm not necessarily predicting that but it wouldn't surprise me with how the roster is presently constituted.

Likely these dudes just saw what the Jazz system did for Joe Jesus and believe that this Jazz squad is their best option for reviving their careers.

Knowing the Jazz injury curse the past several years, it kinda makes sense to build a team that is 15 deep...
