Coward could have insisted that in order to sign with Boston it must be a sign and trade. Boston and Utah could have then engaged in sign and trade discussions that actually gave the Jazz an asset. Coward tried to save face by saying (after the fact) that he was willing to do a sign a trade, but that was way to little to late. Coward should have said I will sign back with Utah unless Boston give the Jazz something in return. Jazz fans wouldn't feel so betrayed and Coward would have been welcomed back in Utah any time. Instead he thought only of himself and screwed the team that loved him for 7 years.

That is also false. From almost every single source the Melo trade was virtually done until New York put the brakes to either incorporate Melo back or, more likely, get Melo to expand his list of teams to which he was willing to be traded to. Houston had no problem dumping contracts to get both CP3 and Melo.
Clearly we are going to have to agree to disagree. CP3 acted honorably and Coward thought only of himself.
That's all fan speak. Let's talk from the players point of view about what you're asking for.
You want the player to say "I know you can pretty much sign me out right and I want to win a championship with you but I'm going to go play somewhere I don't want to be anymore unless you give them some assets which will make it harder for us to get that championship"
Once he decided to be a Celtic his job is to help the celtics not to hurt them on the way in the door to try and give the jazz something on the way out.
If you're a salesman for a company and interview with a new one you don't tell them "I'll come work for you as long as you give my old company two of your best five accounts"
Uhh, nope. Houston trades Bev and other contracts and signed CP3 as a free agent. The sign and trade just made it easier.
I like how you conveniently make these things so easy like teams don't plan their salary cap for several seasons to target free agents. So next year we should have plenty of space to sign Westbrook and lebron we will just send a couple of guys wherever

I think the thing that has really upset Jazz fans is the simple fact that Hayward left the Jazz for "greener pastures." All the outrage over the method of the decision, the delay, the lack of pressing for a sign-and trade, the supposed lies, the apparent lack of letting the Jazz brass know in an honorable way, etc., etc., are excuses we use to mask our discomfort with a decision that we know he had a right to make. Those other things reflect poorly on Hayward, but likely say much more of immaturity and poor planning in an unfamiliar situation than true moral shortcomings.
But the discomfort we feel with Hayward's decision is real and biting. To put it in terms that ijazz can perhaps understand, it's as if Hayward decided to leave Butler for Indiana University after Butler's finals loss, saying how much he respects IU's coach and would be better able to fulfill his dreams at IU.
I understand completely why players generally (including Hayward, and likely many more of the current Jazzmen than we'd like to recognize) are willing to move for what they regard as a better situation. I don't resent them for that. But those decisions (especially when the movement seems to be from the "small time" to the "big time" and not for overwhelming basketball or financial reasons) leave fans with a pain that there is no good cure for. I'm not into the lifetime grudges that many Jazz fans seem to hold, but I understand them.

He can go where he wants and I don't really think we missed out on much with the delay so maybe that's why I'm not so upset.
It's done and over and I didn't care to get into a Hayward conversation again I'm just sick of hearing about how Chris Paul is some saint cause he made sure the clippers were taken care of when that has nothing to do with it.
