It's no secret that this upcoming draft could be huge for Jazz Basketball. KOC and company have a lot of big choices to make in building a championship team. Personally, I like our chances in the draft of landing some important pieces. I know there is already a post on the draft, but this is a pole, and my purpose is to be more specific. Everyone knows that the Jazz have a few needs to fill:
More Size, length, and Athleticism
A Legitimate shooter—preferably one that can put the ball on the floor
A solid small forward or shooting guard (Gordon Hayward is skilled enough to play either position so we should take the best player available between SF’s and SG’s if we do take one).
A legitimate point Guard. (This need is interesting because we already have Devin Harris who is pretty darn good, but I am not quite sold on the idea that Harris is a good fit for the Jazz. Great dude nonetheless).
With all that being said, there are various players I feel would fit the criteria I have just laid out. I will lay out the choices in pairs, indicating who we draft at 6 and who we draft at 12. Keep in mind I am leaving out Irving , Williams and Kanter because they should be gone after 3, and I am assuming the Jazz draft 6 and 12.
- Brandon Knight at # 6, and Alec Burks at # 12. Both have a great chance of being solid NBA Players. Knight is Athletic and has great size for the PG position. Burks Is pretty much hands down the best PG prospect in this year’s draft. A great Slasher at the college ranks, with a developing jump shot. According to my knowledge, both are only 19 and have a lot of room for growth. (worth mentioning though that I am not sure Burks falls to 12, especially in a weak draft).
- Bismack Biyombo at #6 and Jimmer Fredette at #12. This seems very possible it could happen. Bismack has recently jumped on everyone’s radar after stunning play in highly exposed games. Bismack is Long, Athletic, and Big. He’s listed at 6’9 with a 7-7 wingspan. He is said to be only 18 years old, but there are a lot of people incredulous about that (Maybe more like 20 or 21 years old). He is a defensive monster! Can Block shots and rebound the Basketball. If his game translates to the NBA, (keep in mind he plays in the 2nd best league in the world right now) Having a guy like Bismack could really alter Games at the defensive end. He’s been compared to Ben Wallace, but more athletic. Choosing him could really change the dynamics of the Utah Jazz. Drafting Jimmer along with Bimack would give us a solid shooter, who could very well turn into a Solid PG in the NBA. Not to mention Jimmer would be Great from a PR standpoint. (I really don’t need to say anything else about Jimmer on this thread. He is easily the most talked about player on Jazzfanz and he does not even play for the Jazz lol).
- Jan Vesely at #6 and Kemba Walker at #12. According to David Locke, Jan Vesley has an NBA Ability. You can see it on locked on Jazz. In the Video he holds the ball at the three point line, and then taking one dribble elevates to the basket and dunks the basketball with a guy contesting the dunk. Pretty impressive! The Dude is a 6’11 European player. Seems to have pretty good form and touch on his shot. Could be a pretty good player at the NBA level. Kemba Walker could slip down to #12. Jameer Nelson slipped pretty far down, partly because he was undersized. I could see the same thing happening with Walker. Walker is quick, and has the ability to score. Maybe he’ll be a Ty Lawson type player in the NBA. He seems to show good leadership ability, and can certainly get to the basketball. J.J. Barea is undersized and he really impacted the Laker Mavs game last night in game two, and If J.J. Barea can get to the basket and reap havoc in the lane with quickness and basketball savvy, I am pretty confident walker will be productive in the NBA.
I am interested to hear your thoughts and opinions. What do you guys think? Do you like one pair in particular. Any other pair you would prefer in the Draft at 12 and 6?
