Yup, the rivalry that will just not die no matter how many times Chris Hill tries, is back for another round.

Things are looking pretty grim in Cougarland. Can they bounce back? Can they find the very elusive Ty Detmer offense in it's natural habitat just in time to avoid yet another loss? Will the LES crowd give the BYU offense a standing ovation when they pass midfield? Ok, let's not kid ourselves, "if" they pass midfield.

I'm just gonna come out and say it: If Utah loses this game, I'll NEVER forgive them. I'm not interested in the: "anything can happen in this rivalry" talk this time around. In all honesty, during this week I usually try to be polite to the BYU fans on this board that I like and I'll throw some genericly bland sentences their way. Things like: "Utah better bring their "A" game", or , "BYU has the type of coaches/players/schemes that can cause real problems for Utah".

I just can't do it this year. Yes, I'm aware that BYU could possibly beat Utah. But I'm sorry, offensively they're an absolute **** show. No game changers at WR, no game changers at RB, an overrated O-line, an OC that is drowning, and QB who looks broken.

We could break down and analyze all of the match-ups, but that's just a ****ing waste of time. The bottom line is this: Utah has ZERO business losing this game. I'm not impressed that Kilane's furious and is ready to start knocking heads, I'm not impressed that BYU will be back at home, eager to show their heated rival that they're up to the task. I won't be impressed by all of the radio reports that we'll have to deal with this week, telling us how Detmer is working with Mangum to refine some of the issues within the offense.

Utah's the better team. On every level. Anything less than a double digit win, would signal in my mind that maybe Whitt is as inept as Detmer. The roster talent between these two isn't even close and it's time to validate that with a comfortable road win in Provo.

It's nice that Utah gets 2 FCS quality teams to start the year. Maybe the TDS will put up a bigger fight than North Dakota did?

Should I watch? I want to see a close game but... looks like BYU is not that good

I caught the final seconds of last year's thriller ;). Utah's coach is ruggedly handsome iirc.

Knowing how this rivalry goes, BYU will rise to the occasion and play them tight. I'm probably giving Utah the kiss of death but this is the first time in years that I don't think the game should be close (even though it probably will be). I just don't see 1 single playmaker on BYU's offense.

I don't mean this as a slight to Utah because obviously you've beat us six straight times, but do we actually know how good they are yet? Maybe I'm not remembering this right, but I feel like you guys graduated most of your defense, pretty much your entire offensive line, and you're starting a new quarterback with a new offensive coordinator.

I'm just really surprised that within the weekend this game has gone from a "BYU will probably beat us this year because we're rebuilding" to "we are obviously far superior in every aspect and should blow them out." We looked like hot garbage yesterday, but it's not like we were playing a poor opponent. BYU has got to get it together offensively, but there's no way that Utah is in the same league as LSU defensively. Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but I expect this to be a typical Holy War game, that comes down to the last minute or two.

It was never a "You guys will probably beat us this year." more of a "If not now then when?".

Sorry but the gap between the programs is growing ever wider. That's just reality.

Utah did graduate a lot of NFL talent but the D-Line is still 6-8 guys deep and the Secondary is going to end up being better than last year. LB is a concern, especially with injuries, but Utah is deep enough at Safety that they can afford to move Chase Hansen to LB.

Offensively, Utah has more playmakers. They may not have enough to match up to the likes of USC and Washington, but they have plenty more than BYU and I'm not even trying to say it in a **** talking manner. I think an objective BYU fan would agree with me and while yes, LSU is a tough match-up for anybody, BYU didn't seem to have a playmaker step up against FCS Portland State.

I'm sure BYU will be up for this game. A loss here drops them to 1-2 with Wisconsin, Boise, and Miss State still looming and there's a real potential they could end up being 2-5 after their first 7 games. I think we can all agree that would be an unmitigated disaster. Needless to say, BYU is going to put EVERYTHING into this game. A win here and suddenly things don't look so bad.

And while I'm sure BYU's "want to" is going to be at 110%, the more talented team almost always wins these games. I think it's an extremely close game by halftime and Utah slowly pulls away in the 2nd half.

Utah- 34
Y- 17

I should also mention that I really like BYU's D- especially their front 7. It's still not enough for me to think BYU will win the game considering the Utah D is pretty damn good too and I think their O is faster/better.

I'm curious: Any of the BYU fans in here picking a BYU win this week?

SEC destroying the Pac-12

Cy, I usually ignore you but I couldn't help myself with this post. Since there was only 1 PAC-SEC game this past weekend, I'm assuming you were trying to pile on UCLA when they were down big to A&M and make it an "SEC is so superior" thing? Just curious, why on earth did you stop posting about it?

Also, lol at being such and SEC fanboy that you needed to drop that post in a Utah-BYU thread. Not surprised though. Cy gonna Cy.

Remember the days when zoobs like Trout, Conan and Duck Rodgers were struttin the board, talking all kinds of smack about BYU being better than Utah?

Now they dare not show their face for fear of being smacked back down into the mud.

So sad.

What the hell ever happened to those dudes?

I was disappointed with the number of penalties in the first game for Utah. Totally took me out of the game and lowered my enthusiasm. I think at one point we had a 1st and 40. Ridiculous.

It would be nice to stretch it out to 7 but wouldn't lose sleep over it. I'm still kind of irked that Colorado won the south before we did.

I hope that Tuttle kid lives up to hype, but that's next year. I don't know what to expect this year but Carrington looks like he might actually be able to catch the ball which is more than I could say to a lot of our recent receivers.

they got further into self-hate and out of JFC.

Last time I talked to Trout, he said he and some of the other zoobs were planning on going into a cryogenics program, where they could be frozen and then re-animated in 200, 500, or 1000 years. However long it takes for BYU to catch back up to Utah's football program.
