Dante Exum: shoulder injury

This injury ****ed up my NBA mood for the season completely. I can't say I even care what happens now. I feel like... meh... what's the point of it all when at the end of the day this team is cursed to lose player after player year after year. This one is super depressing.

I feel similar. When the season starts ill get pumped again but this took a lot of excitement out of the season for me. It also is prepped me for the inevitable onslaught of injuries our roster will endure since we do every year. I hoped this year would be different.

I almost liked your post but I dont really like it I just agree with it.

That's the thing... I don't think the Jazz give him 40M.

Maybe it's less than that. I said 8-10 per, so maybe 32M. I just don't see Utah lowballing him so bad he takes the QO, and will a risk a slight overpay to do so.

Anyway, so far it's you, Cy and HH who all believe he'll take the QO. I think you are all wrong, but I guess we'll see soon enough.

I immediately went to the western prediction thread and dropped Utah a couple spots. Not because I think Dante will make that much difference, but because it seems we're always ****ed and can't catch a break.

We've invested too much, time and a 5th pick, on this kid. He's shown promise, and we are in no position to be that picky in Utah.

He's our talent, and he belongs here period.

Kanter and DWill were higher picks. Burke was 9th. If anything Jazz showed they have no problem partying with high picks when they do not meet the expectations.

I don't think we extend him... I think he may not get a 4/40 type offer next year if he's out all year and I'm not sure he'd take it. He thinks highly of himself and may want to make the 6.7M and hit the market as unrestricted when the cap is heading up again.

Maybe he reads the market next year and just wants to lock something in. He's made 16M so far and would make another 7 on the QO... so he's likely in a decent spot to gamble on himself. We will see.

I'm more 50/50 though... could see either happening.

That was never happening. I don't think Exum was going to get enough to get a team to bite in RFA. There just isnt enough buyers next year. Exum was always going to get the short end of the stick in negotiations. I think him signing the QO is a near guarantee (unless we do something with Rubio by free agency of 2018).

Why? He is injured and possibly out for the whole season. Nobody will offer him a huge deal next summer and his QO is just over 4 million. Unless his ego is huge, he would have to really consider a 4/32 offer.

Im not sure why people have this impression of him. He just wants a chance to play ball, I think money is the furthest thing from his mind atm.

No. His QO is just over 4 million. With his injury he has no chance of qualifying for the starter criteria, which means that his QO is the same as the 15th pick.

Not sure any of these are good comps
Unlike Kanter, Dante has a good attitude and is committed to playing defense. I think the summer league and first two preseason games showed Dante was improving offensively. He was more of a project than Burke. And he had the injury which set him back further.
DWill was likely leaving as an UFA (or at least KOC and the Millers thought). That's why he was traded.

I think DL tries to sign Dante to a reasonable 4yr deal. And if both sides reach a compromise, I'll bet the contract will be bashed by many here as a gross overpay.

I don't know if they extend him or not, but if they don't, they'll either match an offer sheet or come to terms in the offseason. Allowing him to take the QO is basically giving up on him at this point. Not seeing it.

I'm also not buying a 2 time serious injury sufferer gambling on staying healthy with 35-40 million in front of him.

I disagree with the idea you label somebody injury prone over a freak accident. Dante could have been in a car accident and some fans would be calling him injury prone. Good for you for supporting him, but I dislike your post. Don't worry though, I dislike other people's posts, and they all seem to get over it, so I think you'll be ok. If not, I'm afraid you might be prone to oversensitivity, which means you might not last as a Jazzfanz poster.
