One of my mission companion's younger brother went missing in China in 2004. At first they thought he fell and died while hiking in a canyon. But people reported seeing him after he came out so they know he made it through. Anyway, I just got news from my friend that they now think North Korea has him. North Korea has a long history of kidnapping people. (https://video.foxnews.com/v/4695285/kidnapped-in-north-korea) Hopefully now that people in DC are looking at this something can happen.

I remember reading about that story in the paper.
Yeah, it seems like forever ago. When we were living in Japan my buddy came with his brother (the one who is missing) and hung out with us for a bit. Now that I think of it, David, the one who is missing went to Korea on his mission. They were heading over there after spending some time in Japan first. He was a way cool guy and it sucks that he and his family have had to go through this.
Absurdly bad taste.

I read the article online. My guess is that he fell into the river or something like that.
David was a very experienced climber and in phenomenal shape. So the whole he died in the canyon story never sat well with his family. His dad and 2 of his brothers went to China and spoke with people in a village who said they remembered seeing him after he hiked the canyon.

Having an American who speaks Korean would be a good asset for them.
The whole thing is just unimaginable from a parental or family perspective. Not being certain could drive you insane.

Clinton went and got a couple journalists about two years ago that had been sentenced to 12 years hard labor. But other than that, you had all the details correct.

What is driving their new intuition/hope? I really doubt North Korea body snatched 180,000 foreigners from that part of the world like the story cites. I'll bet most of those people ended up on the harvested organ black market via the Chinese based on what I know of the area. Hopefully not in this case, but that would be the most likely scenario generally.
