I've done some experimenting with the chat feature on the site and still believe the general use is too low. Yes, I realize that I am a big part of the reason for that by taking it away and bringing it back in various places which likely made it hard to find. It is currently disabled and I'll re-evaluate it soon to make it more obvious when people are chatting (like during games).

I'm debating on whether to experiment with another chat as well. The new JazzFanz app is slated to have a chat feature. However it does NOT integrate with the site which means only those on the app can chat. Is this something you'd be interested in or would you rather wait and have a more robust solution perhaps where chatting via app and website are combined and, hopefully, used?

I like the idea of having the combined chat between the App and the website one... I think it would get used much more than it is now (provided it is easily accessible on the App and on the website).
 
I loved the chat feature and found the game thread chat cumbersome. I would still use it if I had home internet and the old (or new) users showed back up. It was a very personable transition from the typical post something and leave style that is the internet.

as soon as there's a solution that combines the app and website, we will try it. rumors of it coming but nothing yet...

Ok, original chat is at the bottom of the homepage for now. I was holding off waiting for Tapatalk to provide an integrated chat where you could use the app and website seamlessly but that didn't happen. That said, thanks to Archie's post, I've started looking again at other options and am waiting on some information that might be a better chat experience. For now, I'll leave the chat where it is. Enjoy.

A version of chat has been installed. It’s a demo for 6 days more. Let’s see what you think and whether it gets used.

It does have personal chat capability as well as the chat room but you have to become friends first as I type this.

Still playing with it.

I just test blocked dong2ha and it appeared to work? I'm not sure what happens if the user leaves and comes back. Will continue to dive in.
 
Okay everyone - not sure what I think of the chat... Your opinions?

I'm concerned it defaults to SOUND dings for everyone although easily turned off. Also not thrilled private chat is also by default on and allowed. Thoughts? No need for private chats and just keep a chatroom? Keep private and group chat? Does it work ok? We are trying it out for a few games.

I liked the new chat a lot. I don't think there is a reason to keep the private chat though.
