Rubio is not the answer going forward

The Jazz and Deron williams. Together they were great. Apart they struggled to find a replacement for the other.

It's like a curse. How long do you suppose this curse will last?

This sounds uninformed ...guys play in the olympics and world championships ,european championships and NBA and still someone will think they dont live in the gym.
Rubio is in the wrong system playing for Snyder but you don't hustle all game long if you don't spend time in the gym

I think the criticism, which is valid, is he doesn't work on evolving his game.

If he's constantly competing then he doesn't have the time to go in gym with trainers for a 5 or 6 week period and work on the things he needs to get better at - kind of like what Hayward did 2 years ago that pushed him over the top and made him an all-star.

NJ Serp isn't the first person I've heard this from - as Locke said on multiple occasions, Rubio has never had an "off-season." I think he desperately needs one.

But even more than that, he needs to learn how to win. I'm sorry; but to me the kid is nothing but a bunch of empty stats - like Jay Cutler. Maybe a more like-able loser; but a loser nonetheless.

Coach Thibs is not an idiot - he knew what he was doing when he jettisoned Rubio out of Minnesota.

So what? If Carmelo was foreign, he'd play in all that crap too. It doesn't make him a gym rat.

Favors the gym rat? I like Rubio's odds there more. Mitchell doesn't count yet. He's still riding the draft honeymoon. I'd say Gobert, Neto, and Ingles are for sure.

Yes, Favors more. By a mile.

When Favors signed his extension, he stayed in Utah that summer to work on his game instead of going home to Atlanta.

He is definitely a gym rat - his problem is his body is giving out on him.

I like Rubio. Knew it would be a rough transition switching from Hayward to him. I’m happy he’s here for the next two years to sort it all out.

I’d probably have a couple of games where I start with Gobert/Favors/Jingles/Hood/Mitchell and bring Rubio in off the bench. Jazz should be looking at alternative lineups and seeing where they are at before major decisions regarding Favors, Hood and Exum have to be made.

IMO, the Jazz need a threat at either PF or SF that can help space things out better. Hayward drew so much attention that it freed up more room for Gobert and Hood. If the Jazz could find a guy who could let Jingles come in off the bench without sacrificing shooting. . . I have no doubt that this team would look a LOT better in a big hurry.

I have not been very impressed with Rubio so far. He has some major flaws that are too easy to exploit, and he has been very very loose with the ball which has been an absolute killer. He is unable to pass the ball to Rudy in a way that gives Rudy a chance to score most of the time. Every other player that runs PnR with Rudy is able to make the pocket pass, or lob pass but Ricky just can't seem to figure it out. Of course a lot of this is because the defense is selling out to guard the roll and letting Rubio shoot. He can't finish well in traffic, and so it comes down to him hitting an inefficient shot from midrange (which he is pretty good at) or.... the play breaking down. Sometimes if the other team overhelps too much he finds the open 3 point shooter. He is a good passer obviously, but PnR is not his strength, and the Jazz constantly run it.

The only possible way to make this thing work would be to make sure there are 3 other shooters out there. So in that sense the organization has kind of failed in setting up this team for success. Quin's options are to start JJ or Jerebko if he wants a good shooter at the 4. Both those guys are flawed, and then that will alienate Favors. I feel for Quin because DL did not make his job easy this year.

I am taking a vacation from posting, for a variety of reasons. Just to say that much of the criticism I have received is spot on, though there are some misunderstandings about me and my intentions. I hope to start posting next year and put my hostile feelings behind me and forgive all the posters I have argued with, notably Archie, Numby, Crappy, even Franklin. No reason to get all upset about this. In the end, it's only a game. There are more important things in life.

Just to close, I think I told you so, about Rubio.

Since the dislike function and neg rep seem to have gone away, I dislike this post.

It's funny how similar the deals for Al Jefferson and Ricky Rubio were.

-taking back a large multi-year deal and sending back little/no salary
-Minnesota enjoys addition by subtraction
-Utah gets worse by adding a player that has a reputation for being a good player but has a number of catastrophic flaws

Can we just make it a point to not do a deal with the Timberwolves when they leave one of their stars on the curb for pickup?

I think I would rather have Ronnie Brewer's 3 point shooting and guard skills at this point.

I expected this much from rubio.

the crazy thing I didn't expect was him to be THIS awful at handling the ball. He's currently at like 8 in turnovers per game. You see a lot of super stars on this last, but all those players have an incredibly high usage rate. Lebron/harden/westbrook/embiid, etc all score in bunches. I was hoping that I was wrong about my pre-season evaluation of rubio, but I think after 5-6 seasons you tend to see what a player is going to amount to.

1 DeMarcus Cousins New Orleans Pelicans C 5.12
2 James Harden Houston Rockets SG 4.94
3 Russell Westbrook Oklahoma City Thunder PG 4.50
4 LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers SF 4.41
5 Joel Embiid Philadelphia 76ers C 4.29
6 D'Angelo Russell Brooklyn Nets PG 4.00
7 Dwight Howard Charlotte Hornets C 3.94
8 Ricky Rubio Utah Jazz PG 3.59
9 Ben Simmons Philadelphia 76ers SG 3.50
10 Jeff Teague Minnesota Timberwolves PG 3.47

I would also like to add that I was one of the only voices loudly opposing the Jefferson acquisition and in the minority opposing the Rubio acquisition. Not to Eenie Meenie y'all too hard

What I don't get a run? My feelings are hurt. By the way Burks is straight up rubbish and has the trade value of Ebola.

Speaking of Burks fans where has fish been?

About Rubio:

“We understood his perceived deficiencies when we traded for him,” says Snyder. “We feel like he’s eager to improve and he can improve.” Snyder sees room for growth beyond his shooting, though. “The biggest thing we’re working on is his tempo,” Snyder says. “He’s so fast with the ball, but speed is not the answer for everything. If he learns how to change speeds, slow down at times, that makes his faster moments even faster. It will help his reads. It will get him in a better position for shots for himself or for others. I think when you see that, just the subtleties of working on tempo and angles, you’ll see that those things will make him a better shooter too.”

Why are there so many posts talking about how you are done posting?

This is good to read. What's disconcerting about Bricky is that as bad as we think he's been, his current stats are about at his career averages, with the exception of assists, which are lower. Assists can be discounted due to pace and style of offense (slower and other players like Mitchell are also driving the offense).

My biggest concern about him, besides his shooting, has been his out-of-control style of play. He's very fast at going nowhere. Sounds like Quin also has this opinion. But his shooting...I cringe every time I see him put up a shot. I know Donovan has been bad at times, but I don't mind seeing DM shoot or drive to the hoop. If Bricky can't improve his shooting, I just don't see him as Utah's viable starting PG going forward. Jazz need threats outside, whether Favs or Gobert plays the 5.

As a former PG. if anyone can help Rubio evolve, it is Quin. Let's hope Bricky stays in Utah for a good portion of next summer. He desperately needs to work on his game.

Maybe I never gave him a chance... maybe I was not sold on the fit from the very start... but... it's not like he's given me any reason to doubt my initial reaction to that trade... Trying to make Ricky play like he's George Hill will not work. Not now, not ever. He doesn't fit with this team and its cornerstone player(Gobert) and he doesn't fit in the system that emphasizes his worst attributes and doesn't let him show off and use his best attributes to their fullest extent.

This is the reason I thought Exum will take his spot by end of the year if he kept the level he played at in pre-season and had he not got injured there is little doubt in my mind that this would have happened.
