What's new

Food for thought: why didn't KOC trade up to 6 with Golden State?

A future 1st would have done it, as I said Golden State new Udoh would be there at 9, and would be cheaper as well. It would be a completely free gift for them.

Not a snowball's chance in Houston this would have done it. No GM is that stupid

What would be stupid is to give up #9 and a first rounder next year for #6 this year. With Cousins gone, you are switching two next level crap shots and losing an asset in the process. That's not very smart.

My guess is it wasn't enough for those teams. If it was don't you think at least one trade up in the lottery would have happened if the cost was only a mid 1st round pick next year? The closest team in the draft order was NO trading Aldrich away to save money Aldrich's contract & MoPete to the OKC for cap relief. I think that's what those teams wanted and the Jazz just didn't want to give up the last little bit of cap space they have to guarantee they lose their own guys (Boozer & Matthews, Fes etc)

There was no one at 6 that was worth trading up for. We got as good a prospect as anyone at 6. If we could get into the top 3-5 and grab Couzins, then yes, it's worth trading up. But at 6, elite prospects were gone. No point of trading up to take a player who is not any better as the guy we got at 9.
This...Totally agree.
But then again, why not make a thread bashing KOC whenever you can make something up?

In what way would that be stupid? Had they known Udoh would still be available at 9, the choice is this: A) Draft Udoh; and B) Draft Udoh AND get an extra first-round draft pick out of the deal. I ask again: Given the above stated circumstance, in what conceivable way would that be stupid?

For the record, the Pistons weren't as high on Udoh as Golden State. It's almost certain that the Pistons would have taken Ed Davis at 7 - not Udoh - if Monroe wasn't available. And the Clippers wanted Aminu. So yes, Udoh still would have been there at 9.

Does anyone really think that Udoh or Monroe really will be good players in this league? Neither exactly impressed me. Monroe might be as good as Channing Frye someday. While Udoh reminds me of Anthony Randolf who's already with the Warriors. Neither is a can't miss prospect. If the Jazz were to trade it up would have been for a top 5 pick. After that, the difference between 6-15 wasn't that different.

I'm not at all angry at KOC for not trading up for Udoh or Monroe.

I think Udoh is the very definition of bust. Monroe reminds me a lot of a slightly slower Chris Webber with his body frame, passing, tendency to like to face the basket, finesse style, his touch around the basket, and his mid-range shooting. I don't know if he's gonna make it or not, and lord knows we don't need another softie on the team, but I would have liked to pick him ahead of who we did.

I question any post that predicts what Golden State would do in a given situation. Hardest front office in the league to figure out.

We did not get the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd pick. So it's pointless talking about getting up to 6 for a player that won't make an impact we want right away.

Udoh has a much better chance to be a legit starter than Hayward does IMHO. Oh--and he fills a bigger need than Hayward does.

As long as Hayward is on the Jazz, though, I hope that he proves me wrong.

Watch Udoh get major PT on the Warriors--and watch Boozer come back averaging 20/10 but allowing 6 to 8 points per game via bad defense.

It's possible that Golden State was asking for too much. But I would be interested in knowing what they wanted more than #9 and the Memphis pick. Of course Utah wasn't going to take on Monta Ellis's contract simply to move up 3 spots.
