What's new

Nikola Mirotic

I'm still trying to figure out how we get Mirotic without trading our 1st, Exum or Hood. Seems like the Bulls don't have much leverage. It would be unfortunate if we have to get rid of one of those assets in order to get Mirotic.

Maybe...

Pelicans get Favors
Bulls get JoeJ and NOLA's 2018 1st
We get Mirotic and Asik

If we did that, we are a luxury team next season when we re-sign Hood and Exum. But our core for the future would be Exum, Mitchell, Hood, Mirotic, Gobert, Bradley and our 2018 1st. Not bad...

NOLA has zero use for Favs...

If we can get a first rounder for one of our assets I’d rather have the first rounder... not send it off.

I stand firm... they won’t get a first rounder for him without taking back salary. I will give you Favs and a couple seconds if you want. Maybe they can find a home for Favs but time is not on their side.

Here is an idea Favs to Washington Gortat and smith to Chicago... wash 1st to Chicago as well... Niko to us.

They figure out what to do with Gortat Smith Lopez later.

Even though Mirotic can't be traded until Monday could it be announced if they had reached an agreement?

I’m sure it could. Not like they can’t talk.

Well that's all a bunch of stuff that sounds totally on-point.

I'm not sure where to tuck this point in, so I'll do it here: the trade market mid-season (like the free agent market in the offseason), is usually contingent on other moves. Usually the big domino has to fall in order for everything else to. So, Favors might not be moved until either DeAndre Jordan is, or until the trade deadline (in the event the Jordon situation lasts that long or isn't traded at all).

I don’t think Jordan gets moved. Hey are close to the playoffs and the market for centers this offseason will be really limited... clips won’t have to pay him the max.

Ma
Joe Johnson is heading for a buyout.
Maybe. Hopefully it’s as part of a trade in a cost cutting move for his expiring contract - even if it means the Jazz have to kick in some cash to offset that buyout. Then he’s free to pick where he wants to go. I want them to do right by Joe Jesus, but I’d like them to be able to use his contract for something positive.

It also makes me wonder if Derrick Favors is really going to get a huge contract offer elsewhere, or if the Jazz are better off retaining him as a building block for the near future. I look at the PF cupboard and it’s pretty barren here in the next few years. I’m one of the few who doesn’t hate the Gobert/Favors frontcourt. All depends on the cost, but I’ve always leaned towards keeping him if possible.

It's not up to the Jazz if Favors re-signs.

No, it’s not. BUT - they could certainly prioritize keeping him and making him feel wanted. That would go a long ways towards mending any rifts. Depending on what contracts are out there, I could see him having more value to the Jazz (who likely punt on free agency this year) and get an offer reflecting that.

I'm not sold that Favors would re-sign here. This might be our chance to make a good move instead of letting him walk for nothing like Milsap did a few years back.

He won't. I think he is looking at MLE type money.

The same trouble we have in finding a trade partner for him will be the same trouble he finds in FA.

He won't be back... book it.
