What's new

Nikola Mirotic

He hasn’t been healthy the past two seasons, but has been a lot more explosive this year. He may not have the same bounce that he did as a kid, but he still does plenty of things effectively.
Yes, he can still do some things and be reasonably effective, he still he is not what he once was, right? He is on the downhill slide.

I think Favors could play another 4-5 strong years if he would finally own up to the fact that he's a C and not a PF. If he was able to get on a team like the Cavs and play C with Love at PF, LeBron at SF, and IT at PG, he could be very, very successful.

I think this is partly true. If he ends up on a team like Boston or New York that has a guy like Horford/Porzingis as a stretchy 5, I think he fits as a strong 4. He just struggles with a guy like Rudy and both guys need space low to operate effectively.

I heard he is following Rubio and Mitchell on twitter as of today

it's has to been a done deal, i'd say greater than 90%

I'm hopeful as well but one thing I read in an article about that is we don't know when he added them to his twitter account. It could have been earlier in the season, but I agree that its definitely a good sign.

I’m fine with the deal if it happens, but I’m waiting to see what the terms of the trade are before getting excited. I’m curious to see what the Jazz actually have to give up to get him.

I hate to be the wet blanket but I don't know that anything is as solid as some of the reports make it sound. There have only been a couple specific things that have come out referencing different sources, but every article seems to regurgitate the same thing without adding sources.

Here's to hoping.

I really dont think there is a done deal. If the Bulls wanted to hold MIrotic out, I think they would think of something different than a stomach virus. No one misses multiple games w/ a stomach virus and they play on the 13th. If he doesnt play Saturday then I will get my excitement/nervousness level back up.

I don't keep up with all the rules and contracts, but what about:

Favors, a 1st and alec burks for

Mirotic + another asset

It could work but I don't think the Jazz should be in the business of giving up 1st round picks right now.

Yeah moving off Burks and/or Rubio's deals next season would be nice and open up more possibilities but what are the Jazz going to do with that cap room? Who would they sign?

It would make sense for Favors to go to a third team and that team to send a mid-late 1st-round pick to Chicago. Jazz could add a 2nd-rd pick or bit player.

It will most likely be a three team trade with the Cavaliers. With Cleveland's atrocious defense as of late Favors would be a great addition. We send Favors and another piece to Cleveland, they send a first and a piece to Chicago and they send us Mirotic.
Its possible but other teams will be likely to be able to trade straight up.

The one thing that is in our favor is that Mirotic wants to play for Snyder and has a no trade clause that gives him a little more control in where he goes.

Guess I'm greedy. I was hoping Favs might have value to a contender. Something like Cavs get Favors, Jazz get Mirotic and Bulls get Frye and the Cavs pick. With some filler to make salaries work. Hate to think Favs is just an expiring and Jazz have to also give up a 1st. And then the Bulls try to flip Favors to another team at the deadline.
Maybe JJ to the Cavs is a possibility.
@Odgerton...it's been reported the Bulls can negate the no trade by merely picking up the option on Mirotic's contract. But you have to think a team trading for Nicola will want to know he has interest in staying. Otherwise you have a George Hill situation where a team has blown great assets for a rental. Usually in those cases, a contender sends expirings and a 2nd round pick in a trade.

I disagree strongly with the idea that Favors is on the downside of his career. He’s 26 years old. He’s likely moving into his prime as well. It’s unfortunate that the Jazz haven’t been able to replicate the defensive magic that they displayed at the end of the 2014/15 season with Rudy and Derrick dominating. Would have loved to see what this team could’ve been if they could stay healthy together.
RIP Rim Reapers

I think Niko would help Rubio play better.

didnt know if this had been shared. You can judge the source for yourself.

I’m feeling pretty certain there will be changes made regardless of Mirotic.

I think we make a move, but I certainly don't the Mirotic deal is a sure thing.

DL and the Jazz FO have a unique way of operating. Seems like when we do make moves, there's not a whisper about it in the media until it's done. A lot of the other "sure things" in recent years (e.g., trading Favors + #5 to CLE for the #1 pick, the Jae Crowder sign and trade, etc.) that had the media buzzing never materialized.
