Hate BYU, but don't hate Jimmer

Gomretat, you're guilty of boxscore ballin'. If you watched him play at least a tiny bit then there would be no way you could call him a poor shooter.

So I am guessing there is either a literacy issue or an attention span problem. Never heard or read anyone call him a poor shooter. All I have done is state facts. I clearly address his 40 footers. And I am clear that he is a good shooter. You may want to re-read what I said and then if you have an answer, be happy to respond.

I am a BYU fan. Have been since I was a little kid. And I love what Jimmer did this year for the team and how good he was in collage. But unless he proves he can play at least passable Defense, Can actually get into the lane against an NBA quality defender and then find a guy that is open when the help comes, then I would like to see the Jazz take someone else. Just don't think we need an undersized 2/Slow PG that doesn't play D.

Well said. Be careful being objective on this board - it creates a bit of a stir from the zealots. By the way, I am a BYU alum, just didn't drink the kool-aid.

Wow. the JC Carroll and Jimmer comparison is eye opening. Now, more than ever, I do not want Jimmer. NO, No, no. Especially when Knight and Irving have basically identical stats.

So if you were going to buy a car would you only look at the stats?
If it was me I would look at the car, sit in it, start it up, take it for a test drive, have a mechanic check out the motor.

JC was good, but if you watch their games you can see how Jimmer set himself apart from JC. Get out of boxscoreland, and use your eyes.

Jimmer shot well, but he also set himself apart in his ball handling, his splitting traps and doubles, driving the lanes, finishing in traffic, having a name like Jimmer, and in starting Jimmermania with his "no big deal" almost half court shot on the Utes.

Jimmer>>>>Chuck Norris>>>>>JC Carroll

OK Jimmer lovers, let me ask you this. If you draft Jimmer at 12, you are drafting him to be your backup PG/spark off the bench forever. Nobody thinks he can play 30 mins in the NBA, nobody. So, at 12 you are picking a backup PG. Why would you pick Jimmer over Nolan Smith? Jimmer is a better shooter, that is a fact. But Smith is a better defender, passer, scores just as efficiently as Jimmer and has actually run an offense before and done all of this against much, MUCH better competition. Who would be the better career backup pg?

That is why Jimmer will slide out of the lottery. When you compare him head to head vs Singleton, vs Thompson, etc, he is always the second option.

I like Nolan Smith. If I'm being subjective I pick Fredette, but Nolan Smith if I'm being objective.

Betting on Fredette is like betting on Tebow. You want him to succeed, but you don't think so. But then you think maybe he will succeed just because he's so likable. I hope he does. And if he does I want him on my team. But I'm not so sure he will.

So it's a matter of blowing the 12th pick on the less than confident chance Fredette can succeed in the NBA. I dunno. But after reading some of BillyShelby's posts I'm souring on Singleton. BUT I think Biyombo could slip to 12 - and I'd rather bet on him than Fredette. - sorry Jimmer. I'm only willing to gamble on you if someone else gambles on Biyombo first.
