Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

The team didnt suck because of Love. The team sucked because of their management.

Like I said in my novel, Love can be a very good player. However, as the #1 option, his team was terrible. You're right, they didn't build around him. Whether the FO sucked or not, it doesn't take away the fact that the Cavs won the title without Love doing much at all. LeBron won more games without Love and Kyrie 3 finals ago than they did with Love and Kyrie.

I just don't believe Love is our missing piece. If he was a free agent, maybe. Giving up a bunch of assets for the guy is a risk I wouldn't take.

To me it's wild the 3-team deal (just having hte same trade, but sending Mirotic to Utah and Favors to NOLA) hasnt happened yet. The only explanation is that the Pels or Jazz don't want to help each other out.

Or that they don’t want Favors and want something else. They may have had certain protections on the pick if it was Niko and maybe they want different protections now.

It does seem like it should work and that Favs would fit well with Davis. If the Jazz are doing it just because we are competing that is sooooooo dumb. We are more likely to catch Denver imo. Pelicans will make a win-now trade with someone... whether we do a deal or not.

I don’t think that is it... we have made several deals with Denver so I don’t think much thought is given.

I just think even if NO didn’t like the Favs deal as much as the Niko deal we could offer Jerebko and either we take Ajinca or Chicago does... we could add a second rounder if they wanted to take Ajinca. Could also add holiday to NO Jerebko or Thabo to Chicago... I’d like to keep one of those guys to backup Niko next year.

Or DL doesn't value Mirotic.

Nah I think he’s just about perfect for what we want given the price age and such. I mean ideally you’d get someone who is a rugged defender and more of a playmaker but if Niko had that with the offensive repertoire then he’d be an every year all star and you ain’t getting that on the cheap.

I doubt that, he's exactly what Snyder is looking for in a 4. He can shoot post up and a good passer. Maybe Favors has told management he wants to resign on a team friendly deal. I don't know. All I know is he's exactly the player the jazz have been looking to add

Bwahahahahahaha!

I read that report and was like so NY wants to get rid of one of the worst contracts in the league but they are like we won’t give you anything good to incentivize it... bet they had a lot of short conversations.

Can’t blame them for trying... was shocked Milwaukee was able to trade that awful plumlee contract but I think the league is now much more adverse to sp bring.

NO also may think they can get Monroe... they may have know he would become available. I think they are right at the tax though so they might need to lose some salary to sign him.

If Boston gets Monroe and a deal doesn't happen then I think NO just didn't want Favs.

Monroe would be perfect for New Orleans. But still, they have to find a way to dump Asik.

If New Orleans could add Monroe then trade us Asik and their 1st for Joe Johnson and a 2nd, that would be wise business for them. Too bad we are both fighting for the playoffs.

Stein says Joe Johnson is angling for a trade out of Utah. I love Joe Jesus and will forever be a fan... but I think this would be wise for us too. Guessing he is bought out though because most nights he just looks done.

He can't go to Boston though... only caveat.

This is an article from two years ago:

The Bucks are still looking to find a taker for Greg Monroe and it sounds like they’ve spoken to the Pelicans about him this offseason. “I think [the Bucks] got closer than maybe has been reported with New Orleans during either the draft or free agency,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe said during today’s episode of The Lowe Post podcast (54:25 mark for the relevant portion). “Monroe’s a New Orleans native,” ESPN’s Marc Stein added. “I think that’s where he wants to end up.” Neither Lowe nor Stein suggested that a deal between the Pelicans and Bucks is currently in the works, but Stein expects the big man to eventually be moved, and those two clubs also discussed Monroe prior to this year’s trade deadline.

I'm telling you, Joe Johnson and a 2nd for Asik and a 1st is incredible business for us. Then NOLA signs Monroe. Excellent business for them too.

How desperate is NO? I mean if we came with the Hood, Favs, JJ for Hill Asik their 2018 unprotected, pick swap in 2019, and unprotected in 2020 they still say no I'm sure, but we should try to do our Brooklyn/Boston deal and swing for the damned fences.

I don't think teams are dumb enough to do that, but when I hear about desperate GMs my eyes get big.

I'd do that, but they would have to value JJ to do that and I'm not sure teams still do. If they haven't watched the film maybe.

The Pelicans just offered Asik, Ajinca and their 2018 pick for one year of Mirotic. The most important part of that trade was NOLA dumping Asik and Ajinca. Sure, Mirotic would help this year but he wasn't that important.

I think NOLA still has use for Hill and his contract is more than I would want to take on.

I might go Asik, Ajinca and Pelicans 2018 top 10 protected 1st for Joe Johnson and Thabo (who the Pelicans will not re-sign and we can re-sign in the summer). I would rather not take Asik AND Ajinca....

We know that isnt the case as all of the reports say otherwise.
Reports may say otherwise but could you really value something that you're only willing to give up a second rounder for? So, yes, they value him, but not that much. It wouldn't be my first offer, but I'd trade Hood for him if we're hesitant about a top 15 protected pick.

So NO is 600k from the tax... signing Monroe would put them over the tax line no? They would need to offload a little current year salary in a deal. Doesn't make sense to jump into the tax... maybe they pay someone to take clark or Allen.

I think we have a different deal lined up for Hood. I think we'd send a second with Favs to get Niko. I think the teams are all re-grouping.

DL presents his best offer and waits... did it with DM and Denver called back... hopefully this works out too.
