What's new

Nikola Mirotic

But even two weeks ago, rational voices (me) were saying we weren’t that bad of a team and a Rudy return would decimate the tank. I kept saying it’s a huge gamble to hold out and squeeze more from the deal, as stupid crap like Boogie rupturing his Achilles can completely change the landscape.
Yep, I agree. Chicago showed a willingness to take on a bad deal in order to get a draft pick. Lindsey should have given them Burks and a pick that was top-7 protected. I think that would have sealed the deal two weeks ago.

DL was trying to "not skip steps." He thought he could get cute, GM tank his way into a top-7 draft pick, and still get Chicago to blink at the deadline and deal Mirotic for a 2nd round pick. Lindsey blew it, plain and simple. The only way this turns out better than what he could have had is if Utah still misses the playoffs (it's not a given Jazz catch Denver or NO) and Utah wins a top-3 pick.

lmao

We are so thirsty for a trade that we are still thinking that a team that just traded for him is going to want to turn around and trade him again?

Just taking the temperature.

the ****ing *** aching over Niko has finally reached self-parodying levels.

It's time to unplug
I look forward to your “nobody knew he’d stay consistent with his previous track record and no other GMs were willing to give a pick at the time so that was the consensus and the only rational view” posts in 2019.

Basically, hoping for a Rasheed Wallace / Atlanta Hawks situation here. NOP did this deal in large part for salary dumping. That they got a stop-gap player was bonus. They held up the deal initially because they didn’t want to guarantee the second year of his deal. They’re signing guys on hospice to play the 5. If they could parlay the guy who’s on a longer contract than they want into two solid guys that fill needs now and expire this summer, it may be reasonable to consider.

Yeah, it’s fantasy BS, but we don’t have hundreds of pages of deadline talk because we’re discussing the nuances of rational trades.

I wouldn’t categorize myself as desperate for a trade as I really don’t care and have been saying our team is much better than people are saying. Also have been on the “stupid-to-trade-Favors-for-a-first-rounder” bandwagon since early this season. But I would say I’d be desperate for this trade. I’d throw an offer of Favors, Hood, and our pick to NOP, if need be. That sounds really ****ing stupid. I year from now it won’t sound so ****ing stupid and a lot of people will be salivating about how we could land a guy like Mirotic.

i'm pretty concerned that aside from passing up on a dude who seemed to be a super fit, we'll watch Derrick walk away to get paid and get left with sloppy thirds starting at the 4. If it's we're trying to keep Derrick cool cause i've always been on his side .. but ... i fear we're going to be left with our pants down and nothing to show for it aside from a hope that a 15th pick might develop into something.

Dude. Have no fear, DL is here.

like i've said, there better be a plan b that they think is as good or better
Letting Favors finish out the season +/- re-signing him depending on if there’s interest for him out there.

I like Favors and he does a good job for us but we’re going to be a lot better giving those minutes to a combination of a real stretch four and Udoh. In my mind, one of Gobert or Udoh should always be on the floor and even though Favors’ offense is a lot better, I think the net effect of Udoh is more impactful.
