Colton's Mock Draft Compilation, v. 9.0

Knight and Kanter are both risky picks, but if your going the "risky route", you should probably go big. Kanter could be Kwame Brown or Knight could be Dee Brown.

Kanter has more heart, hustle and toughness than Kwame Brown. Even if he's a big, 6'11" energy player, even if all he does is rebound, he's still an ideal player to play inside and let Derrick Favors roam around and do his thing. I think you have to look at Kanter as a sure thing as a rebounder and see rebounding as the #1 value he brings to a team. On top of that, I think Kanter will be a double-digit scorer and adequate defender. Think of Kanter as a decent complement to Derrick Favors, especially if Kanter can shoot and pass from the high post.

Beyond this, I need to see some evidence why Kemba Walker and Brandon Knight are significantly better prospects than Josh Selby. They're better prospects, but by how much I'm not sure. Selby can match their athleticism and has a quicker first step with the ball. He didn't get to dominate the ball at Kansas the way Knight did at Kentucky and Walker did at UConn. I can see Josh Selby as a Jason Terry type.

I'm in agreement on Selby. I don't think he's much behind any other PG in the draft either.

To ^^^ who are you referring to that 'only' rebounds?

There's just too strong of a track record of Euros failing to make the adjustment to the US style game to ignore it. If we could have at least seen him play some college ball, I guess I could consider it. But absent that gauge, i think it's just too risky to use a #3 pick on him.

If Brandon Knight is the better player why would Calipari essentially say Kanter is better?? He saw him everyday in full contact workouts and must be pretty confident to make that call. The fact that Kanter didn't play makes it even more convincing, as he risks disrespecting Knight who actually played. Your only response can be you are smarter than John Calipari. Think long and hard about that before you slur Kanter again.

Or maybe he wants to help the guy that no one has seen play against the college players? Who knows what his motivation is, but I wouldn't just take the word of a guy who couldn't hack it as an NBA coach as the end all be all

There are several drafts saying that Kanter will go at #3.

Again what mocks had us taking Hayward last year? Link me the one that did please. Mocks are entertainment value. No one in any KOC or any general manager's brain trust would ever leak anything real. The Jazz draft BPA and every source so far, including their coach, indicate that is Kanter.

Let's settle this by asking honzward what he thinks.

List of foreign players taken in the top 5 without NCAA experience since 2000. (Because I think guys with NCAA experience are evaluated differently)
Rubio
Bargniani
Darko
Yao Ming
Nikoloz Tshkitsvili
Pau Gasol

The ballot is still out on Rubio. Tshkitsvili and Darko are busts. Yao and Gasol are perennial all stars, and Bargniani is solid considering how low the star quality in that draft was. Brandon Roy and Rondo are the only All Stars, and Roy's stock was severely hit by the state of his knees, which is a revelation that has come to fruition, and we'll see how Rondo does when he's not on a stacked team.

Compared to top 5 point guards selected since 2000:
Wall
Tyreke Evans (currently Sac's PG)
Rubio
Westbrook
Mike Conley
D Will
CP3
Felton
Shaun Livingston
Devin Harris
Jay Williams

I think the safer pick is Brandon Knight, but my gut still tells me Kanter.
