How did Exum look last night?

I don't dislike him. I just think he was way overrated before draft and came with too many unreasonable expectations. Had he been drafted at 20-30 range nobody here would complain about him at all. Now he has higher measuring stick as 5th pick and he is not living up to those expectations so far.
Fair enough.

I think the biggest issue is he was a huge project player with upside. Fans expect a player picked high to come in and play like Mitchell but that almost never happens. Even more so with Exum who was always supposed to be a years long project and got even more delayed with 2 seasons of injuries. His ceiling is high but who knows if he will get there or even close. It's just a guessing game.

I don't dislike him ( His lack of mid range game and ugly jumper has nothing to do with how he moves BTW). A 5th pick in a very weak overall draft class. But with players still on the board, outside of Nurkic, I still believe Exum has more upside than any player taken after him in the draft.

That's very optimistic. I think it is obvious Saric, Smart, LaVine, Bogdanovic, Jokic and Randle are much better now and I do not see Exum overtaking neither of them in the future. Payton is as well better than Exum now but if he does not develop outside shot Exum may surpass him. Dinwiddie is another one where Exum may have a chance at getting better.

Bogdanovic is pretty good, forgot about him being in that draft class. Payton's might be good if his hair didn't do such a good job defending him.

Exum's upside will largely be derived on his health. If he keeps getting hurt then it is a pick down the drain. If his injuries were just flukes, and he can get constant playing time, he has shown some amazing ability on the court. I wouldn't say I'm very optimistic. He still has a lot to improve, but I have already seen a huge jump since he joined the league. I just see the upside there, and I think he is a worth gamble based on his attributes.

To me, Dante has shown he can be a very good defender. He doesn't gamble (steals) or get a lot of blocks, but he stays in front of his man and contests well with his length (needs to improve ability over screens, but his size hurts him in that regards). This is why PER or someone saying a player is good or bad based on PER makes no sense. PER has a value, but it has major limitations. Exum has shown he has great quickness and passing ability. If he can hit shots even close to what he was doing in the summer league, it will open up his game tremendously, and I think he will. And Quin's offense should get him open shots.

For a kid that had limited experience when drafted, subtracting two+ seasons of him dealing with the injuries he has sustained, I think he is doing great. We'll see how he does the rest of the season and hopefully the playoffs, but I think he is doing fine considering the setbacks he has dealt with.

Just pretend we took Rudy 5th in his draft and Exum 27th.
