Analytics is fine and well but if the threes aren't dropping common sense would be helpful. I have a hard time swallowing all these threes winning us or losing us each game. If we had a decent old school offensive game I feel we would see less huge swings in our offense. Be more consistent. I would hate to be a big rebounding just to chuck it out for another 3 point brick.

What a disappointing loss. We had it under control, and let these guys come back and steal it from us. Offence went toothless in last 2 minutes, was really sad to see how pros paid millions dollars can't figure out how to beat high school level zone. Oh well, of to the next one, and I hope Quin practices offence vs zone a lot from now on.
This loss sucks. Hard. Most hyped game of the year. Depleted team (we always struggle against those), and we struggle to put it away. An awesome game thread punctuated with a catastrophic collapse.
Everyone's in the dumps, and that's fine. That's normal. But this talk of getting in the lottery reminds me of my oldest telling us he hates this family and he's going to run away. Somehow the threat gives him a sense of empowerment. Anyway, I've been saying since November and December that we're not a lottery team, that Rudy would come back, we'd go on a huge tear, and everyone would talk championship. Then we'd hit one last skid and people would look to throw themselves off bridges again. My initial hope back (see link) in mid-January was to get back in the playoffs and face Houston. That's still a good scenario. We play up to competition. Those guys are poised for an epic collapse in the post-season, it's just a matter of whether or not it coincides with us and if we can sustain some mental toughness against them. Anyway, I'm not saying that's who we'll face, but people thought that was a laughable idea.
I was initially going to duck out for a little while on making game threads after the Memphis game. I'm experiencing significant game-thread fatigue. But I'm going to hold it together for a few more games until some of the mopey bitch attitude clears out of this place.

The plan is obvious right now man. What do you see happen at the end of every game? They put the ball in Donovans hands and let him make decisions. The plan is obviously to let Donovan grow and make decisions down the stretch. Some times with a 21 year old rookie it’s gonna work out, sometimes it’s not...and with Donovan it’s worked out more than it hasn’t which is so impressive. Last nights loss sucked for a lot more reasons than a lot of losses this season, but it’s over. If the games close Friday with a few minutes left, I want the ball in Donovans hands, letting him make decisions and grow. Quin has put the ball in his hands every single game just like he did last’s night, last night we just lost. It’s a frustrating loss, and there’s lots we can look at now and say do that different, but these are the definition of growing pains. They are letting Donovan make decisions and more importantly mistakes he can grow from. He is now in a situation where games mean more and every possession means more those growing pains will be more pronounced.Thing is - iso vs zone is exactly what zone is hopping for. It was up to Quin to recognise it and either call a quick timeout to fix it or somehow yell from the sidelines to Rubio to do something about it. Can't hope for rookie to figure it out without help.

The ball should move more, I agree, but that’s part of this learning curve. Next game, I want the ball in Donovans hands, making decisions and becoming better because of it. There’s no reason to not ride or die with him, and not let Donovan have some real freedom to make mistakes this season. Let’s not forget how incredible he already is because of a few mistakes he’s made and will make in the next couple weeks. We want him to be fully polished already, he’s not, but he’s pretty damn good....patients with some of his decision making.
F*** man we’re in the middle of a playoff race mistakes like this cannot be made.IOW, infection is going to keep playing hard, right when things seem dire, thereby exemplifying what the Jazz will do.
True confession: I've work my lucky socks (actually I rotate 3 pairs) on each game day through the streak. I didn't wear them twice in the past while: when we played Atlanta (I was in Canyonlands, wearing more rugged socks) and v. Boston (all three pair happened to be in the wash that day). My contribution will be to don the lucky socks through the rest of the season, no exceptions. Gotta dig it out when things get tough and wear the socks.

Agreed, but from the looks of it they’re letting Donovan call the shots of what he wants to do. You see him call for/wave off screens down the stretch at times. Sometimes he could use more of a plan for sure or a play call that he has to go by, but it doesn’t appear that’s what Quin is doing right now. He’s giving Donovan a lot of freedom to call the shots and decide what he wants to do. Quin, us, the whole franchise wants playoffs but I think they just as much want Donovan to succeed and get better. Playoffs are great, we need to get in them, but betting on Donovan’s development and growth is more important and worth a few bad results in the short term if it helps in the long term. It appears that’s the plan, is give him freedom and ride with the results of it right now. Dante didn’t play very well in the first half and he got yanked pretty quick. Second half he played better and was given more time. It appears Donovan has all the freedom in the world, and really that’s probably the best call.I agree with this, but I'd also say Quin should draw up some scenarios that we can use while Mitchell is going to work. Instead of just spreading the floor by standing around, other guys could be setting screens, trying to open up other possibilities while Mitchell is going to work. Other teams scouting us will know iso Mitchell down the stretch. So prepare for their preparation. Maybe Quin is already doing that, though. I'm no wizard.

I agree, especially the running down the shot clock then trying to get something. Run some plays or run iso early. If you get an open look great, take it. It's better to get points than run down the clock. If you don't get a good look back it out and try again.Way too much iso with Mitchell towards the end. We should mix it up a bit more.
