Utah man defends Jazz fans against Westbrick

It was vulgar and offensive to Westbrook's family to take that video. I don't buy this fan's story.

It’s possible, just maybe, that while this guy was clean someone else wasn’t. Cumulative effect.

Large crowd and you hear some use saying **** on your kids. The later another guy in that crowd ribs you.

You’re far less likely to let anything slide

To be fair, the dude did stick the phone right in his face. I mean if it were a couple of feet away I get it, but man even from his own video's perspective he was almost touching Westbrook's face with the phone. I would have probably reacted the same way given the circumstances.

I think the most compelling part of what he said was that there were not offensive things being said to the Thunder players in his hearing. He was right up close and right on the tunnel where pretty much anything that was said to the players he would also be able to hear.

Or Westbrook was pissed because he lost and lashed out. Let's use Occam's Razor here, do you really think that anyone in the audience knows anything about Westbrook's kids? Does he even have kids? Were they at the game?

It sounds a lot like Westbrook was trying to latch on the Fisher crap from years ago with the "disrespecting my kids" slur. And a few members of the media and some people on this board bought into it.

I hear you.

Is it ever okay to stick a Camera in a players face? What if they had just won? Would Russ have reacted the same way? I don't think so. If it is okay to document the thrill, it has to be okay to document the grief. What makes the nba compelling is the drama playing out before our eyes. The players are the show. Some non threatening, not disrespecting fan, or reporter, sticks a camera in your face turn away, walk away or tell them to stop. Slapping a fan is not okay. Doubling down and smearing said fan, and everyone else in the state, is not okay.

I saw a response tweet to a fox sports guy from a podcast that said “there’s no way Utah fans are the meanest in the NBA” Nick Van Excel replies with a tweet that said “you must have never played a playoff game there”.

I’m sorry but at some point, too many players have added to the list. Most fans are not the problem but if lots of players have complained about it, maybe instead of making excuses or avoiding it, it should be addressed to a certain extent? Now I know can excel hasn’t played a game here in a long time but I would hope Jazz fans are better than that, cause there’s no way you retain guys or get guys to play here if that’s our overall reputation and it’s also no way to treat people in general even if they are a pro athlete playing a game.

Mr. Westbrook,

I am grateful as a fan for the exciting competitive series you and your team gave us Utah fans. Especially you. As you well know, Utah Jazz were the underdogs but fought through.

A fan taunting you after such a tough loss is a low blow. If it was regular season it's understandable. We don't know what was said exactly, but a player taunting you after a tough loss and sending a camera toward your face is bad form. That fan deserved it both in the physical response and the situational. He was an ***.

Fans should have thanked your team for the enjoyment Utah Jazz fans experienced. We truly could not have found any more gratification in this team beating another squad with anyone less than your caliber.

Sincerely,

Utah Jazz fans

I agree, bring in the duct tape squad, with implanted micro sound amplifiers in their ears so they can single out the scum among all 20,000 spectators in the arena.

Here’s the thing, I’m sure it’s very few, which is why it shouldn’t be that hard to do what you can about. Other fans should notify security. I believe you can even text security in the arena now. There are ways to curtail it, and that is by punishing the people doing it. If it is being said other fans are hearing it said, security members close to benches or exits are likely hearing it said. Remove them, report them, ban them.

No one said **** about his kids.

Well said. Furthermore, set an electrically charged perimeter around the opposing bench of at least 25 ft and prevent any unwanted incident from happening in the first place.

I don’t think you or I know if they did or didn’t. Those two fans didn’t, but none of us know what was said or heard all night.

I’m not saying it did happen, I’m just saying you don’t know it didn’t.

Ok, guy.

If no one sees a tree fall in the forest, does it make a sound.

I'm not saying it's impossible someone didn't say it. I'm saying, considering everything, I highly doubt it.

Grow a pair, Westbrook. Move on. You lost.

Nick Van Exel was part of two over-hyped Lakers squads that got bumped hardcore by us 1-4 in ‘97 and then swept in ‘98. Van Exel was then traded away from LA before he could ever win a ring. I’d be a lot more impressed if some guys who mowed over us spoke up... maybe Tim Duncan or Lamar Odom or Gary Payton.
