What's new

New Assistant Coach Candidates?

A couple of names stand out. Almost all have San Antonio connections.

1.) Chip Engelland
2.) Ettore Messina
3.) Becky Hammon
4.) Johnny Bryant (promotion)
5.) Mike Brown (from Quin’s LA days)

I could also see an outside the box type of hire. Adding a TV guy, front office type or even a college coach. Somebody with strong analytical skills.

You'd have to think Messina has been promised the San Antonio job if he wants it when Pop finally retires - otherwise you'd think someone definitely would have hired him as an HC elsewhere.

You also have to wonder if Phoenix will make a play at Favors now. With Len departing and Chandler all but checked out they could definitely use some 4/5 help.

I 2nd Kobe. He has help strayward when no one else would. He helped Mitchell.

I had this thought too and realized that this might be the only way Kobe stops getting booed at Jazz games. Seriously, that would be a nuts turnaround. He was the most hated man in the building every time he was here and was on record for saying that Utah Fans are classless. I think this would be a crazy story if it happened.

I thought Kobe got an applause at the jazz arena for his final game here on his farewell tour season.

I'm not very concerned about it. Quin knows what he'll need. It'll probably be someone all but the very hard core basketball fans know about. And it may be someone brought in at a lower level due to him promoting within for the lead assistamt.

That's what I was thinking. Snyder knows his people, and he goes to get his people. He got Igor, we know. Who's next? Someone we've never heard of, perhaps.

John Stockton?

I always assumed he just didn't want to, but in the Dan Patrick interview, he wondered aloud why he wasn't coaching (not in the tone of his being rejected, more like he hadn't [yet] pursued it and was questioning why). Mentions it at ~0:40.

This. Second to Quin, there's no one I want in our coaching staff more than Bryant. Every time there's an article about him, I wince.

Put him on a 10 year contract with the promotion. He can’t leave DM right now.

I'm down with bringing in another Euro, or a female coach tbqh. We have a lot of trad-staff and we could use some different perspectives.

The season is over so coaches take a day or two off then are right back to work evaluating draft picks.

Do you think a coaching hire happens before the draft? Before Summer League?

Is this a possibility for an Alex Jensen promotion? Not sure what he coaches with the Jazz currently, but I've always loved that guy. He's the Mike Rowe of the Jazz.

Stockton was an assistant coach for the Montana State women's team a couple of years ago. His daughter was on the team and they needed a coach and Stockton filled in. The team had a decent record.
