Stupid Pet Peeves

School sports are always political. I'm not a great athlete but I was good enough for the Jr. High school bball team. I got passed over by a few kids who lived up on the bench (and were friends with the best players) instead of "the wrong side of the tracks" like I did. I dominated them in Jr. Jazz and tryouts but they still got the nod over me.

Didn't change my life any so who cares. Child activities have become unrealistically compettitive though. Let em be kids FFS.

The issue is that some of the kids that are good enough to play beyond high school are potentially being screwed out of the exposure. Many kids are going the way of accelerated travel teams to get the exposure they need to get an opportunity at the next level. One of the kids on this team is representing the US in Jr. Olympics ffs. But he can’t get in the game for his HS coach. It just boggles my mind.

We had stamped concrete put in. I’ll post pics sometimes. It looks amazing and it’s a really good size. It was about 1,100 total square feet which includes the front porch and apron which is probably about 225 square feet of it. And a sidewalk on the side of the house which I guess is another 200. So the back patio is the whole width of the house (55 feet iirc) and goes out 15 feet from the house. We almost did 13.5’ so thank God we did the 15 or I’d be so mad at myself. But yeah. Even just nine more inches would be great. With furniture, it’s not tight, but I’d prefer just a tiny bit more space.

For a guy who likes stats, he’s kinda dumb.

Damn that's a lot of concrete. I bet stamped cost you over $10,000. My dad and I poured a 4 yard batch for a neighbor and I gave my labor for free. $1,200 for easily$2,000 worth, with no license, tax or business costs. You're talking 14 yards plus the stamping. Well done kid.

That's a pet peeve of mine as well. Living in the richest and most powerful country in the history of the world, you would think we would have much better financial literacy. I hear very well educated people say that all the time along with "it's only paper wealth" blah, blah, blah.

If I had one complaint about high school education it would be that they don't require teenagers to read Wealth of Nations.
