Here is what the Jazz should try to do. I think most of this is within the realm of realistic outcomes.

1. Waive the trio of non-guaranteed vets who were signed this past off-season (Thabo/Jonas/Udoh). This will make sense with the other moves I will make.

2. Double sign and trade for Jabari Parker using Derrick Favors. Favors signs a 45 million dollar deal over 3 years and Parker signs a 54 million dollar deal over 3 years w/ a team option in the final year. Bucks really need a starting center and Favors gives them that while being more health reliable. Should be a good fit on the Bucks without being a premium price. This probably relies on their relationship being too frazzled with Parker to move on with him.

3. Re-sign Dante Exum for 20 million dollars over a 3 year deal, with the final year being a player option. Since the Jazz arent signing anyone using cap-space, they can have the upper-hand in negotiating with Dante as they can wait out his big cap hold. I think this is a good deal for Dante as it gives him a safety net of career earnings with the option to opt out after 2 years if he succeeds.

4. Extend Ricky Rubio with a 74 million dollar deal over 4 years starting in 2019. I expect Rubio to have a great year next year so I would want to lock him up to a fair deal now. With the Parker signing though, the need to extend Rubio becomes less so as the Jazz don't really benefit that much from lower his cap number on the 2019 free agency as they wouldnt have any real cap-space either way.

5. Sign Seth Curry using the bi-annual exception at 6 million over 2 years with a team option in the 2nd year. He was injured the entire year, but he played well the previous year for the Mavs. Offers high level shooting for a cheap price. Can play next to Exum in some 2nd unit lineups

6. Sign Jerami Grant using part of the mid-level exception at 12,600,000 over 3 years with the final year being a team option. I was really impressed by Grant in the OKC series. Great athlete with great length. I see him being a backup 4/5 and a potential ace in the sleeve against teams like Houston/GSW as a small ball 5. This is might be a bit of an overpay, but he is still fairly young and I think he will have a big market in the price range just below this.

7. Sign Anthony Tolliver using rest of mid-level exception for 8 million over 2 years w/ the final year being a team option. Replaces Jerebko as the situational stretch big. Similar weaknesses to Jerebko, but a much more dangerous shooter. Also a vet which is nice given how much younger the roster is getting with these moves.

8. Draft: Obviously the Jazz should draft BPA at the guard, wing or forward position, but personally I would place highest value on Jacob Evans or Elie Okobo with the first round pick. Drafting that late in the 2nd round is usually a crap shoot and have no real opinion on who should be taken without knowing who will fall that low, I will say Malik Newman just to say a name to put in the depth chart.

Obviously the biggest question mark is Jabari's health, but if he stays healthy this is a potentially great team with a bright future and a lot of versatility.

Umm I hate most of those moves.

#2 is a straight no from me. I don't like Jabari, I don't think he fits personality or scheme wise with the Jazz. And that is a huge risk for a guy I see as not an upgrade. What he adds on offense you lose with his defense.
#4 is a maybe but I see no reason not to wait, even if he does have another year like the one he just had I don't see Rubio as irreplaceable.
#5,6 and 7 are all a really big Meh, none of those guys have ever impressed me that much and I actually though Grant was a problem for OKC in that series not a huge help. He looked okay because Carmello was such a liability in that series.
#3 I'm okay with though I wonder if he'll get more than that.
#1 Whatever, I like some of those guys (Especially Jerebko) but they don't really move the needle much.

I think that team is a potentially good not great team with a very limited ceiling. I don't think those moves are worth it for selling your future on Jabari Parker (which is what you are doing) Favors at 15M or Jabari at 18M per year I'd just stick with Favors. Not have to lose Jerebko or Thabo and Still be able to do similar moves to the ones you did. Though a big wouldn't be necessary so getting Grant would probably not happen.

I don't mind this off-season. I'm still not super high on Rubio's long-term projection with the team... You have to really trust Jabari's knee to give him that money... although... the team option 3d year makes it more palatable.

I don't hate this at all. It's risky but maybe a prudent risk.

Not sure I trust Bradly as backup C yet. And awfully thin/small at C if Gobert has any injuries. Might want to try to put Kevon Looney into the mix somehow. Great defensive 4/5 option despite the lack of hops/explosiveness. But probably gives very little offensively unless he's hiding something with all that firepower on the Warriors.

#4 you mention his lower cap number... just an FYI to you and all JazzFanz when talking about 2019 cap space and Ricky... he has a 22M caphold.

Also I’m not extending him without a discount. He’s a flawed player at a deep position... if he wants to go 4/60 then sure... if not we can risk it.

I’d prefer to stay out of the Jabari business but at least this is a reasonable number.

I’ll bet Grant does better than that. Young and improving still. I’m guessing he gets close to full MLE.

Grant would play a lot of backup 5 against most teams unless Bradley is ready.

You lost me as soon as you suggested trading for Parker

17 million a year is a discount....

He plays like he did January and on and he is looking at 20 million a year potentially.

Yeah, that scares me a bit. I'm not sure he holds up to that even though I love him there for spot minutes.
I mean, backing up Gobert is spot minutes. How many backup centers in the NBA are you scared of? Plus, they have Bradley developing if needed.

I'm surprised this isnt being more well received. It addresses every concern the team has (scoring, shooting, defense against top teams). I do get the Jabari apprehension with his health, but you have to take a shot at some point and betting on free agency in 2019 seems like a bigger risk than Jabari's health.

And PG is kind of deep, sure, but it's still a high demand position and Rubio and Kemba are the only two starting quality UFA PG's in 2019 (from what I can tell). 2019 will be somewhat of a free agency renaissance as a lot more will have cap-space and with the Supreme Court's gambling decision, teams might be more willing to spend with more money sure to come in the future.

1. I think we need to keep Thabo. Im ok letting Jonas and Udoh go.

2. Not sold on Jabari AT ALL. Would prefer we sign Bjelica for $4-8M/yr (not sure his worth on open market).

3. Dante for $20M over 3 yrs is good, Id push to make the 3rd year a team option even if it costs a little more.

4. Extending Rubio is a good idea but Id hope we can get him for $15M/yr, Im not sure he'll be a moveable contract at $18-20M/yr.

5. I like Seth Curry so Im ok with that.

6. Pass on Grant

7. Pass on Tolliver

8. You were the first to push Mitchell so Ill trust you.

What were your plans for Neto??

I think this should be amplified a bit. I love the idea of playing for cap space in 2019, but it's not like it's a sure bet to end up using it on what you want. Punting a year, only to wind up with cap space and only misfits available would be a pretty hard blow. Personally, I have a hard time deciding between going for Parker vs giving Faves a short term contract with an eye on next year, but either way there are potential risks, and potential payouts.

Everyone should go back and watch some Jabari tape from last year. He is a really good player, and could very well be a star. Sure, there are risks associated with signing him, but that's why he has some gettability.

Plus 1st round pick...

What were your plans for Neto??
Bjelica just isnt that good on offense and he is a defensive liability against the top teams.

Even under this where you are aiming for max space in 2019, who are you signing? That's a risk. The best case would be Khris Middleton, but it's not like he is a guaranteed get and we are talking a big contract fo him to the tune of 30 million. And who plays PF in the long-term future?

Thabo is 34 coming off major knee surgery.

I'm just kind of bored with Neto and I'm not sure he wants to re-sign as a 3rd string guard. How many 3rd string guards at Neto's age stay with a team that long?

I still think people really underrate Rubio if they think an average of 18.5 a year is some huge overpay. I think it could end up being an underpay.

Why on earth are you against adding one of the best shooting big man in the NBA and one of the switchier big-man athlete in the NBA?

We have to give ourselves the opportunity in 2019, no ifs, no buts.
