What's new

Best +/- by a rookie in last 20 seasons.... couple Jazz names in top 5.

Why would you think of AK's crying as something to "tolerate"? Why does it upset you in any way? Do you have trouble tolerating joy, anger, or fear, or just sadness/frustration?

JazzSpazz treated the crying as humorous, and as any Puppeteer will tell you, humor is based on an interrupted fear reflex.

I agree that making fun of crying is rooted in cultural aversion to the expression. But, surely humor is not ONLY based on interrupted fear reflex! Not even mockery humor is solely based on that.

Only, of course not. Always, AFAICT. Nessus is smarter than any of us anyhow.

Not always. Not even the main component I don't think. I have a friend who can do some really good impressions, which I find hilarious. Which one of my fears was interrupted?

Speaking of humor: the most robotic poster on the board lecturing anybody about what makes us human.

You got me again. I am afraid of AK's rookie pic, so I made a joke to give me courage after I saw it. Thanks for pointing it out and making me feel like an idiot. Geez, some people are so rude and thoughtless towards other people's feelings.

This is funny.

If a guy complains about his apartment neighbor blasting his stereo at 2:00 am, does he hate music?

If someone is annoyed by a couple people laughing during a moment of silence at a public event, are they devoid of a sense of humor?

If a woman complains to HR about a supervisor sexually harassing her, is she just a prude?

Your friend exhibiting an unusual voice. Notice that it doesn't have to be impressions to be funny. In some circumstances, just a different voice, or a yell, is funny.

How is that a fear?

Does Kirilenko's crying spell keeps you awake at night?

If someone is annoyed by a couple people laughing during a moment of silence at a public event, are they devoid of a sense of humor?

Was he killed by an elephant while dressed as a peanut?

More seriously, did Kirilenko's crying spell disturb the decorum of some solemn event for you?

If a woman complains to HR about a supervisor sexually harassing her, is she just a prude?

Kirilenko's crying spell affected you in the same way someone putting your career on the line does? They sure seem like silly comparisons to me.

People's voices change in pitch and volume in times of danger. It's been that way since before we were apes.

Aaah. That's a reach. I can buy the idea that humor is mainly about the unexpected. What you said sounds like Freudian mumbo jumbo.

You mean, the type of unexpected that does not give rise (possibly very briefly) to fear?

It just doesn't seem like the moment of apprehension you get while you process a good surprise is the same as the "fear" that men have for crying (different emotions, manifested in different ways, and acquired in a different manner). But I'll have to give this more thought. I can see the rabbit hole that connects them to the human sense of danger.

AK47 came a decade too soon. Could you imagine how dominate he’d be in today’s nba?

He was too skinny to play the 4 for us back in the day. Ironically, he’d be a perfect 4 for us right now. He, Gobert, Jingles, Mitchell, and Rubio would be the best passing team in the league. The length he and Gobert could provide us with the potential length and defense to compete against the rockets and warriors.
