I don't go around getting the latest code books for cities all over the US. Since Agenda 21 has been adopted nearly universally in America, I just count on it.
A business license means you have to file reports, and pay, sales taxes. If you don't file the report, you get fined. The license costs typically $200 to $500 in California. It makes renting rooms uneconomical.
That said, lots of folks have little informal communes where everybody shares and pitches a little into the pot. Hang a few flower pots near your door, get a bead curtain for the front door, and they'll leave you alone.
who knows, maybe you will be the next Mayor of Taylorsville.
If they wouldn’t even let a JFCer sit on the city council, no way in hell they give us the mayorship.
well, JFC membership was not a factor. Well, unless you know it was. I would guess there are some old timer families..... maybe Taylors and Bennions doing a lot of home cooking.
the bit about the beadstring doorway and hanging flower pots was some California coolness which I suspect might cause the code enforcement officer to just turn around and go back to the office. Kinda hard to see Taylorsville going that way. But if things go the way California has gone, that is precisely the kind of networking that keeps the governorship Brown's.
However, realistically speaking, that is not what happens with code enforcement officers in California. There is no looking the other way or turning back.

Good luck dealing with Taylorsville City. If the building department is any indication of any other department in the city, be prepared for it to be a major pain in the ***, require a **** ton of paperwork that no other city in the valley requires, and cost three times as much as any other city.

I’m trying to recoup some money a family member paid this chick to rent a room. I’m almost positive this chick is listing it for cheap(425+ deposit) with promises of equal access to the common areas but doesn’t ever give that access and makes things as awkward as possible to run tenants off. So after 2-4 weeks she is pocketing $725. It’s sleazy as **** and I’d like to call her out on it. I was hoping to get the info on here about licensure before I call the city tomorrow.

Guh, sometimes I hate being able to research the law for a living when it triggers me to find answers to these questions. It took 2 minutes.
Taylorsville has a L-13 form that landlords have to fill out. I'd give you a link but it's a pdf and Androids ****ing sucks so I can't copy the link. Good Utah Landlord something or other. They are required to have a business license, though finding actual law is a pain in the *** so take it with a grain.
Ask for their city L-13 certificate and see what they say.
