What's new

Stupid Pet Peeves

The great negotiators from the union at work trading away 1200 dollars a year in allowances over a four year agreement for two 700 dollar payments which work out to about 250 bucks after tax. Useless pricks.

That just happened at my work as well.

The problem is the award covers a bunch of workers that don't have the same entitlements and conditions that we do so trading them anyway means nothing to them or the union cause they vastly outnumber us. The race to the bottom.

Yeah, our new contract is complete garbage. I was so hopeful, unemployment at all time lows, company gained 18% on their stock in 2017, tax breaks that don't directly affect this company, but creates a more competitive environment for employees, we constantly have several open positions. All that and we get a contract that's no better than the contract they got during the recession. SMFH. How we didn't send them back to the table to get a reasonable deal I can't understand.

I believe its because most people are ****ing idiots, how some of them dress themselves in the morning is beyond me.

We got screwed because its not just our workplace or even all people who work in public hospitals but people who work in the sector who vote on the award. The union traded away an allowance (which im not sure everybody got) which paid us 24 bucks a week not much money but after 52 weeks it adds up. The allowance was basically for working with blood and trauma probably applied to 10,000 out of 30 or 40,000 members. The head of the union desperate to further her political career in the Labour Party basically screwed us, so we got and extra four percent per year over four years but lost 1200 bucks off our base to begin with.

This was still better than the last deal that was two years overdue and got us a whopping 1 percent. Ten years at the hospital and the parking has gone up more than pay has in real terms, parking on the street has put an extra 190 bucks a month in my pocket. (More like 120 after tax, parking used to be 72 bucks a month its now 48 per week.)

Because for decades union rights have been diminished while a pro-business sentiment has swept both major parties.
