Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Simons not working out with anyone else on the court yet again. I still haven't heard of him having any workouts with other players included in the workout. I'd be scared *****ess to draft Simons. And at the same time... there will be a a tinge of excitement in my belly. He looks so intriguing.

Yeah, but DJ Hogg is working out solo too, so maybe it's for a different reason? I may be mistaken, but I dont think they do 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 during pro days. It's just a bunch of drills.

It doesnt say specifically if he worked out with other players in competitive scenarios, but he was there with other players.

He has a lot of upside, no doubt. Good length and athleticism for a combo guard. Shooting touch and range are legit. Questions are whether he can defend and whether he has lead guard skills. If not, he may be a 6th man type.

Oh nice, thanks. I missed this one. I hope he comes to workout for us too...

I don't think he's out to get us. He's just not as cooperative as one would think he should be for the way the Jazz treated him after the BS him and the snek pulled off last year.

For whatever it's worth, I don't buy the "i am pulling out to talk to my family... and then 5 days later deliver the decision". You go to the workout you are scheduled for and then go home to talk to your family. IMO he probably got a promise from a team(his last workout before he pulled out of the workout with us was with the Lakers who allegedly gave promise to Kuzma last year). It will be interesting to see if he will reschedule the workout with the Jazz now or if he's going to go to any workouts really...
...aaaaaaaaaand.... here we go:

I will have Okobo, Lonnie Walker and Michael Porter Jr much higher than most people when it's said and done...

I'm not saying if it was a good move or not, that's impossible to say at this point. I'm saying that I think we have a pretty good feel for how DL operates and the trades Lopo brought up are not how he operates. I'm just showing they arent wishy washy and just waiting for whatever drops to them.

He’s talked before about moving up, back, or out. No one strategy lacks conviction. He does seem to lock in on guys... message has been consistent this year... that they like where they are.

If he truly has a promise and that's why he cancelled the Utah workout then I would assume its from someone who is picking before the Jazz.
Why? There is very little difference between the money he gets at 21 or at 25(Lakers). If he wants to go to LA, I can absolutely see him not minding slipping 4 spots to do it. + he will get better endorsement opportunities in LA.

Yeah, that's something I've noticed - it really does look like they lock into players and target them. Last year it was obviously Mitchell and Bradley. They had those circled and they made sure they got them. In previous years they've been trading down in the second round when noone they like is there(thus getting additional value for picks they have no strong conviction on). And indeed, this year from what I've heard from DL and Perrin, it seems like they like that area in the draft (21).

He’s doing the mystery man routine... I don’t like it and I wouldn’t draft him... unless of course we got 30/34 and had a couple picks to take a swing.

But honestly simons and Williams are guys I hope go before we pick.

Those seconds were traded for one purpose... cash

I don’t love everything the FO does but I have faith in their direction and overall planning.

There was smoke last year on DJ Wilson... wonder if they still like him... Could be a good buy low.

IMO they trade those picks when they don't like anyone there. I don't think they would have traded them if they loved somebody that was available. They've also spent money before to move up(Gobert) so IMO the cash is not the primary driving force in those trades - it's whether they love a player there or not. If they don't love the options available they just cash in for a future moment when they might love someone and need cash to get him.

I do love that we are all making it out like DL targets and gets his guy and has convictions without doubt... he laid the groundwork on the Denver deal but they called him, he admitted they didn’t know he was this good... I mean no one could have predicted that. Rudy was in part because Sloan loved him at his workout...he’s been excellent but don’t ignore the luck element.

He also locked into trey Lyles because of the balance beam test... he’s great but he’s been fortunate too.

Let’s say they do all their questioning on KBD and Frazier and think it’s teally a coin flip... does that mean he’s not decisive or lacks conviction? Or does it just mean projecting this stuff is hard and you do your best and hope to hit more than you miss? I’d just like to get s couple swings because I think there are worthy prospects out to 35/40ish

I think some of the cash was reinvested but can’t look the other way when there were many good prospects available and we trade seconds for worse seconds in the future... and cash.

I have a deeper issue with the frugalness we exhibited for a few years operating at the salary floor in the name of flexibility. We could have spent more and not ruined any flexibility. I believe that has been remedied with the trust arrangement. We’ve been extremely profitable for an nba franchise... I think Greg valued cash and DL made it happen for him at the expense of some lower tier assets,

I’ve always felt that the balance beam garbage was because they were looking for something to sell on a pick they were lukewarm about. I think the balance thing became important in retrospect because there wasn’t much you could really say was great. Have a hard time thinking he went in to draft day thinking “you should see this kid on the balance beam!”

I could be wrong, though.
