I’ve always felt that the balance beam garbage was because they were looking for something to sell on a pick they were lukewarm about. I think the balance thing became important in retrospect because there wasn’t much you could really say was great. Have a hard time thinking he went in to draft day thinking “you should see this kid on the balance beam!”
I could be wrong, though.
Nah... they valued it and liked Trey. He’s not awful but I don’t think they had to justify the pick... I think it kept getting mentioned as a “hey we think this guy can be a playmaker” type of thing.
Turns out he can master the balance beam routine but he couldn’t defend an actual balance beam.
