Per Windhorst if Lebron leaves, Love will be available for trade:

If LeBron James leaves in free agency, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to pursue a trade of Kevin Love as they work to rebuild.

"They start over. They fully make Kevin Love available. I bet they would look for a first round pick in that trade. He's on the last year of a deal so they don't want to take on money."

What would you offer? Would you want a trade for Love to begin with?

#21 + expirings? #21 + future second + expirings?

A deal would have to be in the summer. A 2019 first round pick, Burks, filler.

True... yah... if it's after the draft it will be the 2019 pick. If LeBron lets them know before the draft he's leaving we might have to try to do it at draft day, in case someone else tries to get him.

As I’ve thought about that, I can’t think of anyone who comes to mind. Plenty of teams would like to swap Love for worse salary, such as Houston for Ryan Anderson, but what team would give up a first rounder without sending back salary? Bad teams don’t value him, and no competitive team that thinks he helps put him over the top would have anything to give.

You will be surprised how desperate middling teams can be to add talent that could possibly change their fortunes. Every year there are some. The Clippers for example... Charlotte? There will always be teams who would try to acquire high level talent if it's available for good price.

Yeah, we would have to wait for the summer. Tony Jones has been ripping Love lately. I think Love would not be what this team needs. Maybe we can get involved as the 3rd team. I would imagine the Cavs would want to scrap everything.

If we could do Burks for him straight up, maybe though.

They might just to shed salary sooner.

Just as I predicted in another thread. I knew Love would be on the market once Lebron leaves.

But the trade chip doesn't necessarily have to be the 2019 pick. Lindsey would want it to be. But Jazz can also trade the rights to their 2018 pick in the deal. Remember, that's what the Cavs did when they traded for Love; they sent the rights to Wiggins, who they had drafted a month earlier. And that could be what would seal the deal with the Cavs. It would be a known entity in a very deep draft rather than a likely pick in the mid-to-late 20's in a draft that probably won't be quite as good. I don't see any of the lottery teams willing to take on Love and give Cleveland a 1st. And not many playoff teams can absorb his salary.

Jazz would still need to clear cap room. Obviously, Burks goes to Cleveland in the deal. So Cleveland only gets to clear 50% of Love's salary...unless the Jazz stretch Burks. Then there's the issue of the non-guaranteed contracts. Lebron could make his decision after the 1st. I'm guessing Utah declines the option on Thabo. If Love or George aren't acquired, I think he could be brought back by using part of the MLE, if the Jazz want to do that.

However, and I may be wrong about this, if the Jazz clear salaries to get under the cap, it also means renouncing their exceptions (at least that's what I interpreted from the cbafaq site). So signing a player like George or trading for Love would leave the Jazz then filling the remainder of the roster with rookies or players on vet minimum contracts. Not necessarily a bad thing, tbh. There's only enough PT for 10 players.

It clearly can be draft rights, but part of having a draft pick is that you get to pick. If we’re doing it that way, I’d rather trade our second 2017 draft pick.

Love is at his best when is in the paint. So is Rudy. It isn't an easy fit.
Love shot 41.5% on 3's last year. Career 3pt% = 37%
Favors shot 22% last year on limited attempts (14/63)

I'd say Love would be a very good fit camping out beyond the arc while Rubio or Donovan drive, collapse the defense and throw it out to Ingles or Love for a corner 3. No, he's not as good as Favors on defense, but he is equally good in terms of rebounding (if not better). And he can slide to the 5 when Rudy sits.

There is a way the Jazz could get Love and George.

Find a way to trade Burks and a future first for nothing (this is probably impossible)

Waive everyone

Sign Paul George to the max.

Trade Rubio, Crowder, and the first round pick this year for Kevin Love.

The Jazz have a starting lineup of Mitchell/George/Ingles/Love/Gobert and the bench is O'Neale/Bradley

*To be clear, I probably wouldnt want to do this, but it's interesting.*
