What's new

Let’s talk about fours

Sign and Trade rules make that really difficult. Jabari’s salary only counts for 50% for trade matching going out but 100% coming in since he is getting a big raise.
Oh, I didnt know that. That does make it tricky. I am guessing we would have to take on a salary dump from them as well. But I guess that makes it even harder with the cap difference.

It’s doable because you could have a 4M delta on each side but the contract values would need to be agreed on each side and there would be a dance. If we were under the cap it would be easier. Also Favs can’t get more than a 20% raise or he would be subject to the same dumb rule. Would limit Jabari’s contract value though... in general I’m out on him but see why people would want him.

I’d take a flier on Skal for a second rounder.

I think we need to be thinking of guys that are 4s but are closer to wing guys than bigs. The ideal is Paul George. Other great answers are Middleton, Tobias, Draymond.

There are a few guys I’d look at but I think I have a hot take here... you ready?

What if Royce is our playmaking stretch four? Take a walk with me...

Good size... 6’6” with a reported 6’10” wingspan... not perfect but good... rebounding is why they need the size... think PJ Tucker small but built and gets rebounds. Can hold position in the post and there are so few post up bigs in the league right now it isn’t an issue.

Rebounds? You bet your ***... 7.4 per 36 minutes... he also goes and gets them out of area.

Shooting? Okay it was a mixed bag... he had a stint where he couldn’t miss and one where he couldn’t throw it in the ocean. 35.6% is adequate but hopefully he improves and I think he very well could.

Defense? He’s great and competes like a mfer. Thick so guys won’t just bowl him over.

Here is where is is better than a traditional big... perimeter skills. Good passer and can get out on the break fast... imagine if he has a slow four chasing him. His ball handling needs work but for a four he’s great.

So sometimes we need to look within to find what we are searching for.
It’s not an idea I hate. His rebounding is respectable for the position. Has strength. Would we start him, though? I know it would be considered unorthodox, but it’d bring more versatility than feeling compelled to start Favors.

I’d rather keep Derrick Favors on a contract similar to the one Joe Ingles got than 95% of the other “realistic” options that are out there.

Is it a perfect fit? No. But the Gobert and Favors tandem has been very success when healthy. And while people want to point out the imperfect fit in the playoffs against Houston. . . the Jazz probably don’t even get to the second round without Favors.

Unless they’re in a position to get a Paul George, I’d prefer to see Favors and Exum both back for a reasonable price.

I would also chase Aaron Gordon. He could be the ideal fit.

If we strike out I would look at sign and trading Favors for Jabari. Win win for both teams.

Aaron's shooting is very hot and cold though and he's gonna be extremely expensive.

Still would love to have him though, just not sure at what price.

I mean starting Draymond over David Lee was unorthodox (I know Lee got hurt so it was forced).

I’d start him if a better option didn’t come around and we don’t keep Favs. Between crowder and Royce and maybe Thabo and Jonas we might have enough variety there... might want to sign traditional 3 and a cheaper true four for certain situations.

I'd love to bring Skal in. There's a solid track record of young players leaving Sacramento and becoming legit players.

Perfect. Booker.
