Thread where we get way too hyped about Donovan Mitchell off-season workouts

I think he’s good on catch and shoot 3s... I don’t think defenses can ignore him out there.

Not necessarily like a pull-up 3 on the break, but an unassisted three when defenders drop on the PnR would be fantastic. I think it’s one of the main reasons the offense can bog down.

Was just a thought I had while down in a rabbit hole. Guys like Steph, Harden, Kemba, CP3, Lou, Dame seem to have the most effect on offense and it’s something they all have in common. We may get enough of the effect by playing Ricky more off ball and letting DM and Ingles create more... Ingles shoots the pull-up pretty well... he just has to be willing to fire it.

Outside of the PF position the Ricky/DM duo is the thing I’m most intrigued by... not sure if DM plays with more of a SG long term or more of a traditional PG. Ricky brings a lot to the table and doesn’t have to be a primary ball handler to be effective imo... but he will have to improve at a few things if he is operating as a traditional point guard and is the long term solution.

It's anecdotal, but the Jazz seem more effective with Mitchell handling the ball in the half court over Rubio. In the games where Ingles and Rubio effectively space the floor, Mitchell is pretty unstoppable, unless you have a Gobert or send multiple bodies. Teams simply leave Ingles and Rubio. Ingles always makes them pay for that. When Rubio can hit those uncontested threes, it is almost always a Jazz win. At some point they need to forced to make the decision to leave Favors. That is when Favors gets to use his midrange and eat offensive boards like candy.

It would be great to have another guy who can drive the ball like Mitchell, but I suspect that is what we extended Exum for. He's the guy we really need to develop as a pull up threat.
