Hey so anyway turns out Kavanaugh may have committed sexual assault in the 80's.

Something interesting about this, within a single day of this story breaking the Senate Republicans produce a letter signed by 65 women who claim to have known him at the time and are essentially vouching for him as a good man.

What's strange to me is that, first it's really not much of a defense. It's not like men who commit sexual assault do it to every woman they know. It's like a murderer pointing to all the people he didn't kill.

The other thing that is a bit odd is that Kavanaugh went to an all boys school. I don't think I could produce 65 people I knew in High School much less women, and my school was attended by girls as well. Something's off here.

Perhaps his alleged assault was on boys?

It won't matter anyway. He'll be our next SC judge.

Probably the oddest thing is Feinstein holding onto this for months, and then finally deciding to do something at the end.

This whole thing has been an embarrrassing circus.

Alleged assault was a woman who doesn’t want to go public, and doesn’t seem to want anything to do with the story...but wrote Feinstein a letter months ago about it. Feinstein decided not to question Kavanaugh about it when given the chance, instead chose to talk about it just recently. Bizarre.
 
I think it's possible Feinstein was in discussions with the woman in question from when she was first made aware of the allegations, until she finally made a referral to the FBI about how to move forward. If she found the accusation credible, but the witness was unwilling to come forward publicly, there's no way she could have brought it up during hearings, but something needed to be done. Anyway, it is curious.

If the Republicans hadn't produced that ridiculous letter in under 24 hours I would be less inclined to take this seriously. Clearly they were prepared for this, which means they were aware of the allegations. If it came out during their own vetting process why move forward with Kavanaugh when there are plenty of federal justices who would suit their needs just as well without the baggage?

It's actually not all that bizarre. Victims of assault often don't enjoy talking about it, not to mention the abuse that would come along with it in this lovely digital age.

No. The Feinstein part is bizarre. Sorry, I worded that poorly. I get the logic of the accuser, but not Feinstein.

It is pretty sad that anything goes when it comes to Trump hate. It is bizarre that on this site I am characterized as a Trump supporter for not falling in line with all of the unbridled hatred. Harambe learned about my mom's death a couple of years ago and made a disgusting statement about her because he doesn't agree with me politically. Now, a couple of years later, he obviously remembers a few scattered details so he does it again. Have we really sunk so low? If the only way someone can win people over to their side of an argument is to bully and shame, then maybe they should take a close look at who they've become.

Didn't realize your mom died and Harambe knew it. If that's the case I'm not ok with that.

As for unbridled Trump hate, anything less is despicable. He's that crazy.

If a claim like this was made about me I'm confident that I could get 65 female friends from High School to vouch for my character and say that it doesn't sound like anything I would ever do. Social media makes it easy to get the word out quickly.

I agree that men who commit sexual assault do not do it to every woman they know, but if someone makes an allegation like this from 30 years in the past what other evidence do you expect the accused to present?

My mom was an amazing woman who was taken far too early by cancer. She impacted many, many lives in positive ways. The community where she lived most of her life dedicated a memorial to her in their city park after she died. But even if my mom wasn't who she was to other people, she was still Mom to me. Harambe's comment was sickening, and way, way, way out of line.
